Interior Room Background Generator

This may be something that's in the works, but it would be great if FAA had a built-in room generator that potential buyers or artists could use to see or show work in a variety of room interiors. It would also great if the rooms reflected a wide array of styles instead of the ultra modern minimalist look (that almost no one lives in) seen in most art background images.

To make the concept even better, it would great to make the composites printable so they can be share with potential customers. It would also be nice to make them available to use in a header on each artists' page to add some attractiveness there as well.

Any thoughts on this idea?

Thanks.
D.G.

I'm all for it. Such a tool would lead to larger print sales as people see how small an 8x10 really is. I use interior displays on my website - www.edwardfielding.com
...
App - I doubt many would go through the trouble of using the app.

Thanks TC. I knew about the iPad App (and started to mention that), but it should viewable on website here, for the non iPad user. An FAA competitor has a way that artists and prospective buyers can see the art on a variety of interior backgrounds and it's a really smart idea. It's used to generate for the company's Houzz page as well.

I agree it's a cool app but not many people would bother printing out target & all that. Just thought I would point out that it exists for those that might be interested. I love augmented reality so I think its awesome. But I do know what you mean, I've seen that feature on other POD sites.

Edward, really nice job with those.

I agree. I think it would help infinitely with sales if people can see what the art will look like a wall at an approximate representation of its size and scale. It's kind of the way realtors dress a house so that potential buyers can see the house as a place that works for them. I'm sure interior designers would find it extremely useful and artists could it to create display pieces for Pinterest and Instagram that would also help with sales.

I know how to create wall mockups in Photoshop and it's a valuable tool, but most people don't, so something that's easy to use would be immensely helpful.

Room visuals are a great help to sell larger images. How about one of those images in the product area, a customer could just click on it to see it with the particular image or put it on the profile page.

Yes! Other art POD sites have this.

Suzanne, excellent suggestion.

Here's a really good example of what I was referencing, as seen in the thumbnail for the artwork in various scenarios.

... and a laser, three-D projection that actually shoots out of the computer screen, transforming the room that a potential buyer is sitting in into a virtual showroom sample display, while a sexy mechanically generated female-sounding voice sings the praises of quality of materials, customer service, no-risk-money-back guarantee, free lollipop with a purchase of $100 or more, super-last-minute-one-minute-one-time-in-eternity-only special 10% off coupon for the first zillion buyers.

THAT's the app I want.

One thing at a time. ;-)

That is such a great suggestion DG. Why not add it to the weekly suggestion so Sean actually sees it?

Its so obvious I'm sure its on the to do list. (I hope).

I do think it leads to larger sized print orders. That's why I highlight large couch sized pieces on my web page. I think people are usually more likely to be disappointed when they order a piece that is too small. Big pieces are always impressive.

I think this is a great idea, the Pixels.com app just doesn't do it for me. I think people need that visual and would be more likely to buy bigger sizes.

That falls under the heading of nice to have but not a need to have for me.

I would much rather have more new products then more bells and whistles for the same ones we have already. Bells and whistles only help sell the product it if they want the product to begin with.

It would surprise me if Sean has not already thought of this and it is already work in progress, in the pipe line to be come work in progress or he has passed on it all together.

Couple people are assuming that it will lead to larger sized sales. I wonder if there is any data out there to support that? It would be nice to know and would give Sean more incentive to "get a man right on it", as the say. lol

Do you ask to taste the beans in a bean soup recipe before you buy the beans? No, because you pretty much already have a sense of what beans taste like - it's just a matter of adjusting the situation around them to fully bring out their flavor.

The background generator is fun, but I do not see it as a real necessity to improve sales, unless the generator could take uploaded pictures of a specific interior, convert them to a sample room design on screen, where the buyer THEN could place the selected purchase consideration into his/her very own representation of his/her exact room décor.

A purchase does involve some effort on the part of a buyer. Do we eliminate all inklings of visualization from our potential customers?

If people are this needy, then my first instinct (maybe bad) is to avoid this sort of buyer.

I could actually see the generator causing losses of sales, because once a person sees a semblance of a picture hanging on the wall, this might be the impetus NOT to buy it, whereas if they had never seen this semblance, they might have bought it and dealt with it.

Maybe the ap should be for ARTISTS to create sample layouts to show to potential customers - a sample-room-design registry associated with each piece whose appearance WE control. On the page where all the items are listed and thumbnail pictured, there would then be another thumbnail to click on to show the piece in sample layouts, somehow automatically generated maybe.

On the iPad app we are fortunate to have better

Put a target on the wall of where you want a piece of art.

Choose the image and then play with sizes and frames etc until you are happy with the look then purchase :)

I appreciate the iPad app and would definitely use it, as I'm very comfortable with technology, but there are many people who will not, either because they simply aren't tech-savvy or they simply don't have or want an iPad (Yes, those folks still exist). Maybe they'd rather spend their money on art. Whatever the reason, my point in suggesting the background generator is to give people another avenue to see the art in a setting. Sometimes people need to see the art in the context of a room, any room, to help them imagine what it would be like in their own. Maybe they like the art just fine, but seeing it in that living room with the couch is just the thing they may need to go from viewer to buyer.

Respectfully, just because you or I don't need that to decide to buy, doesn't mean other people don't need that added element to make the purchase.
