Frequency Separation

No..it's not about the demise of relationships -- but it certainly heralds the reign of flawless skin. Or, what I've come to view as the digital botox mode. ;)

Ever wonder why celebrities never seem to age? Where's all that alabaster skin coming from?

" Oh".
Thank you Carmen. I was hoping it was a product I could purchase to us on myself. 50 hits hard. Lol.

Seriously, I always wondered the purpose of erasing age for the media . Can you imagine what kind of looks people have on their faces when they see the celebrity in person ?

I've experienced that with 'regular' folk, never mind celebrities. It's a grievous sin to show wear & tear. ;) At least in the virtual world.

I find the alabaster look and/or blurring a bit creepy -- always makes me think they got to the embalmer a tad prematurely.

Right up there with the 'flawless' Barbie & Ken paradigm.

I can't PS , so I don't have full appreciation of the explanation. I do appreciate you posting to show how it is done.

I often seen the "How-to improve Portrait Photography" articles with all the smoothing and blending. I find the portrait loses the personality - & always appreciate the person's character before fixing the" flaws".

Everyone wants to look better, but it would feel rather insulting to know that the photographer felt the need to change you.
But we are just "people" , & hey - that's Hollywood.

I also know that any Painter with a lick of sense would soften certain details - in order for the subject to truly it. Blame it on the brushes.

Shame, the expectations that we have.

EDIT - Oh, that reminds me of some of the Realtor Glamour shots. Seriously, what are you selling here...

The subject, as often as the photographer wants the 'improvement' it would seem. Doctoring images has always been in vogue -- imagine the commissioned trad painters having to please a royal court. Not up to snuff? Didn't magically evaporate Gunnhilder's double chin & wall eye?

Off with his head. Give me PS and my solitude any day ;)

I have an old photo studio shot of my mother -- on close inspection -- eyelashes were added painstakingly by hand -- you can barely make out the fine lines -- but they're there. Light tint of rose on the cheeks -- dodged eye highlights...etc.

Further to the glamour shots -- you can find the same in portfolios on many sites.

And, you're welcome. ツ
