Critique Requested

Hello Everybody,

I am a relatively new member of FAA, since January of this year. My page is at laszlo-prising.artistwebsites.com.

As you can see there, I have 111 photos in my portfolio right now, although I still have a bunch of files on my computer that I am planning to process and upload continuously.

So far I haven't had any sales - which does not surprise me, being a relatively newcomer member.

As for my self promotion, I created a FB Fan Page with the link to my AW page. Same on Twitter and Tumblr (and started uploading to the FAA board on Pinterest.
The same portfolio is also set up at 500px (also no sales so far).

Just yesterday I purchased a package of postcards with my Easter Eggs photo. I am planning to distribute these in the neighborhood. I am also thinking of printing out my portfolio on 8x10 papers and create a collection with which I could hit the streets and knock on the doors of businesses like doctors'/dentists/lawyers' etc. offices.
Do you think it would be a good idea?

I would appreciate any critique of my portfolio, any particular photo or other aspects of my site, and any ideas, opinion or tips about getting closer to that elusive first sale (and, hopefully, many subsequent ones...).

Thank you in advance for any input!

Good luck to you all,

Laszlo

start with an avatar looking at us.

Photography Prints
looking at the work - nothing jumps out. the whole gallery lacks color and contrast. this image here, i don't know what its about. half a boat, taken midday with branches. too many shadows, and there really isn't anything to this.

this would look better if we were looking straight at it. at this angle it looks like your peeping. be sure to add descriptions

this is a snap from your car. anyone from this area can get this. get a shot outside the car, without the other cars. without looking at a title i should be able to figure out what this is about but it's very cluttered.

Art Prints
this is nice, but crooked, and rather soft and static. the entire bridge should be in focus, i'd rather see swans under the bridge. but the lighting here is rather flat. the people are distracting.

Art Prints
how many people will be interested in this?

Sell Art Online
same with this - who is this for?

Photography Prints
this isn't in focus and the crop is way too tight.

Sell Art Online
your animals seem to be all looking away. and this plant in front - does not add to this. and its a touch soft.

Art Prints
this would be better without the fence, or that tree. the colors could use orange, the lighting seems weak.

glancing at the rest - you have too many repeats. i shouldn't see the same images over and over again. many of the shots are vacation snap shots with bland lighting, soft focus, confusing backgrounds, and tight or odd crops. nothing really jumps out overall.

Sell Art Online
this isn't bad, needs a description, abstract should be your first tag.

Art Prints
then you have to ask yourself - where would you hang this? how many will want a cut off bike wheel? you have to have things that a buyer can't do for themselves.

also remove this line from the bio:

"I try to capture shots that make people think along the same way I was thinking when taking the shot. "

Laszio,

Welcome, there is a group,

http://fineartamerica.com/groups/raw-critique.html

And this one:

http://fineartamerica.com/groups/photo-critique-one-on-one-.html

I admin both. I think you have some good images, but not "competitively" captured. I would study "composition", which is off in a number of images, as Mike mentioned. You seem to have a good eye and just need to study what you see through the viewfinder and how to improve each image,

Good Luck,

Rich
