If You've Ever Wanted To Be A "bookee",now May Be The Time!

Hello to All,

Received an email this morning from Blurb, one of the best and most professional companies producing book,photo-books,for photographers and other artists. I'm about 50% done on mine and received this email announcing that they are offering a 30% discount, for the next 4 days! I'm going to get my butt in gear and finish my book, more for family than commercial and get it done before the discount runs out. I'm on page 44 and about another 40 or so to go,

Email them and see if you need to be registered or this is open to anyone.

Good Luck!

I've about given up on a book - but a "magazine" might be just a better ticket: http://www.blurb.com/magazine

Roy,

Looks interesting, but why have you "given" up on a book?

Marlene, do you see any issues with color, shifting?

Rich...what resolution or size are you making your images at...and is the whole process a pain (difficult/time consuming) or pretty smooth going? thanks.

I'll let you know when I get it :)

I just noticed that Light Room has a built in book module compatible with Blurb.

Lawrence,

The same size as FAA. I assume, when you finish your book, they will resize the images down, to the smaller size needed for the actual photo on the page, not sure.

As far as the "ease", NOW, pretty simple! They have ALL kinds of tutorials and then there's YouTube stuff too. Worst case, you can call me when you're ready and I'll try and walk you through it,let me know.

The 3 books that I've seen from Blurb, from my buddy the pro that shoots marine stuff, were amazing and as good as anything from Barnes&Noble, if there still is any Barnes&Nobles!

Thank's Rich...and thanks for the offer...appreciate it!
I'm going to do it one day...just want to get more new works made first, though.

Recently I was at "Art Palm Beach" and I was talking to a photographer at his table about his book made with Blurb and it was of excellent quality.
A "Book"...yes, no different than what's found at B&N and yes, B&N is still hanging in there...I have one by my house. ;)

Lawrence,

I've really gone overboard on this book and way too many images, but this is really for the "MOM",who is 86 and lives alone in NJ and probably will never come to visit again. I'll probably make her a large version and then 2-3 smaller versions, for my family.

What I recommend, is that you get a few other photo books and look at their design, before you begin to "design" your own, much easier!

Yes, do it for mom...my mom passed at 85+, so she can't see my new work...but she got to see a sewn-binder made catalog of my work (most of the stuff I have on here) which a gallery in Europe made...she displayed it proudly. ;))

Yeah, it has to be tough for photographers...toooooooo many shots to choose from and then to either go by subject or mix and match.
and yes...I have enough photos/paintings type books to get a feeling for layout...plus...I'm an "artist" ;) ;)
Thanks, Rich!

Lawrence,

I've got a big car show later today and will try and work on my book a bit and then tomorrow, hopefully finish it. I was going to have some words and a few poems I've written here, but time is running out and that will be the next book!

When done, I'll upload the link and remember, I'm a photographer, not a designer!!! LOL!

Books are an excellent way to chronicle one's work....I've done close to 10 books of photographs in my short 3 years....
