Using Facebook To Promote

I have always wrestled with how much posting is to much posting. I have been on FAA for a little less than a month and started a FB photography page about the same time. In the last week as I have been uploading images to FAA, I have been sharing them on FB, some on my photography page and some on my personal page that has 5 times the amount of viewers. Before joining FAA and creating a photography page, I was getting tons of likes on my images and lots of positive feedback, with quite a few people encouraging me to try and sell my work. Now that I have things set up more as a business, versus hey look a my pretty photo, I am not getting near the response. So going back to why I started this discussion, can posting to much on FB turn people away, and are there better times to post than others? Would love to hear thoughts.

If you created a page for your photography, keep in mind that the folks who like the page understand you're there to promote your work. I would suggest the following --

1.) Don't let FAA post to FB for you. Do it manually. Don't do it for every single image all the time, especially if you upload a lot at the same time. Create an engaging post, not just "New upload to FAA."

2.) Don't just post FAA links to your page. Tease folks with what you're shooting. I sometimes will post, "Looking forward to getting out this weekend and shooting." I sometimes will post articles about photography, etc. Write blogs at FAA and post the links to your page.

Just looked at your profile and you have some really good work. But sometimes I swear that half of everyone on FAA are in South Carolina!

Joseph,

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for you advice. You make some great points and hit on some things I was already thinking about myself. And yeah, there seem to be a bunch of photographers on FAA from the Charleston area. I guess it's because it's such a scenic place. It makes it all the more necessary to be creative because there are a lot of places (bridge, fountain, etc.) and if you are doing the same ole same ole you will just get grouped with the rest.

Oh and really like your stuff as well!

Good advice from Mr Hinson. I follow same practice he does as much as possible. One thing I especially do in FB I also tease the image. I will take something from the description in FAA and cut it off to leave the viewer guessing and hopefully follow link back to FAA. Of course that means writing an interesting description.
Another thing he mentioned is to post manually to your photo page. I do same thing now and once in awhile post to my personal page.
