Need Your Honest Opinion And Suggestions Please...

This is one of my most popular, most viewed, liked, etc. images that I have in my FAA gallery. But, I cannot figure out why I haven't sold a print of it here on FAA yet.

Any suggestions on what I can do differently? How are my keywords, etc?

Thanks in advance...

just because people on here like it, doesn't mean it will be a seller. it has to look right in their house, and unless they are into that exact thing it may be a tough sell. to sell it you would have to find people of that trade and advertise to them.

glancing at the image i think your first smallest price is too high. and your biggest price is a bit too low. your card is only $6 which means i would never bother with the print... i would remove how and where this is made and just concentrate on the story.

anyway you have to advertise to people who want it. that's the main thing.

OK...thanks Mike....I'll do some refining. :)

There might be a couple of reasons, but they'd be conjecture. First, how are you marketing it? Second, the largest it could print is about 22x18. Third, and this is just a personal observation, the blue is distracting from the great textures. I would diminish the blue so that it not so prevalent.

Thank you Louise...I've basically only been marketing it through my business Facebook page.

I agree with Mike. This type of photo would be for a certain person such as a horse lover, cowboy, cowgirl, ect. Nice photo BTW.

searching on saddle brings up close to 6000 hits and if you've never sold your work will be way back in the search.

I think it's a fine photograph, but it's about finding the right person who wants it. You may need to refine your marketing to those people. Keywords look fine. I tend to agree with talking too much about how you made the image. That might be nice in context of sharing the photo on social media (or Flickr) but here you are trying to sell the image. But opinions will vary on that.

$52 for a 6 by 8
$6 for a 5 by 7. I would lower the price of the smallest print for sure. Or I would take out the greeting card all together. Fantastic image by the way!

selling stuff like this takes targeting certain types of people. if your on twitter (get on twitter), look for cowboys, horse trainers, saddle makers, whip makers, and all the other equestrian related people and send tweets #horseTrainer #saddlemaker #gluefactory etc all horse related things

You have some very nice work, Diane. And 579 views is not many if you count bots.

Decorators would know what to do with this piece... like in a men's clothing store.

On your Facebook page, use hashtags for #Decorators, #Design, etc.

the small print should start off low as a gimme, gets people to look at the rest. the card should be increased by quite a bit, because it's a small print. that's how i do mine, seems to work.

Very interesting but not really typical wall art.
Like Mike said: For small prints much too expensive.

David King

The price seems real high to me as well but I can't claim to know much about pricing art. The market for this image would be pretty narrow, but I could definitely see a rodeo cowboy or someone really into the cowboy/western lifestyle wanting that hanging on their wall, the image just needs to be marketed to those people. I do think you could use more keywords.

Just because a person likes something doesn't mean they will buy it. Don't dwell on one piece. It will zap the time and creativity from future work.

As far as pricing. You are the creator. You set the price. Sick with it. Lowering the price only diminishes your personal worth. If someone really wants it, they will pay the price.

Mike Savad

yes, but as per this thread, no one wants it. and the price for a small may be a detriment. you don't cheapen the work. the whole point is, if the price starts high, a buyer may not want to click on it because the size they do want would be WAY too high. a small can sell for a lot more once the artist has a name for themselves or pushes really hard.

Mike-
I take it that you are working on an assumption that "no one wants it".

Out of billions of people in this world, I would venture to guess that only .000000001% or less of the population has seen "Tools Of The Trade".

There is a buyer for everything. Patience and persistence will eventually prevail.

Lowering the price does make the work cheaper. And it also lessens the marketing value of an artist.

Diane

Perhaps you may want to consider signing your original work before it is reproduced. It is value added.

David Bridburg

Cheaper is just a pejorative. This is business. The price right now of an 8" print is $52.

Any potential buyers would have to really really want it.

As for the views, not many. I often have over 1400 views per image. So?

I am only now learning much more about targeting an audience on Twitter. This mixed with building a following on Pinterest.

Only a small fraction of your views actually matter at all. Right now many of the views are just fellow artists and bots....;possibly family
and friends on FB. FB only counts for some old hands. People new to this and now for the first time using FB have very little reach to new
viewers.
