Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Two nights in a row we have reached 0 degree Fahrenheit here in Asheville, North Carolina. Other places have been
much, much colder. Our heat pump does not work well at all in these temperatures - set at 68, it could only get it up to 60 this morning. A fire in the fireplace helps.

Tell us about your Winter. And can anyone explain how record cold 2 Winters in a row fits into the Global Warming/Climate Change science? It is baffling to me.

I remember in the 1970s how they said we were approaching a new ice age. Now they say the planet is heating up. Today feels more like Ice Age to me. :)

Well, Global Warming is a misnomer. It's actually climate change. I'm 15 miles north of New York City and it's 2 degrees here now, with below 0 temps over night. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Last year was a record for ice coverage on the Great Lakes which peaked in March 2014, this year is slightly ahead of last year at this point. Currently they have 80,112 square mile of surface ice and growing quickly.

Here in Italy (Europe!) we have had no snow and although it has been frosty and a cold wind it has been very mild so far, chilly wind but warm sun today. Big concern because the whole olive crop in our area was lost to olive fly and the only thing that will stop it is a prolonged period of cold. Three years ago we were snowed in for over two weeks, this year the snow melted as it landed.

It's a balmy 14 degrees a few hours down I-26 from you, John. It's so cold today that USC has postponed the baseball game for today.

We're in north Georgia, a few miles from the North Carolina line, John. The temp is 5 degrees, and like you we have the heat pump and gas fireplaces running. Toasty warm as long as you stay inside!

In north central Wisconsin, Thursday morning was -19 actual with windchills down to -35, last night was supposed to only get down to -12. Areas to the north were -29 Thursday morning. Last year was worse though, set a record with 55 nights of below zero temperatures. It was so bad last year, that there were about 20 cities and towns where you had to run your water in your house for almost 4 months, so your pipes did not freeze. A stream the size of a pencil was required from January to April. Luckily they did not charge for it. This year we are only at 27 nights below zero, so far. I think they are forecasting 2 nights above zero for the next week. I might have to start looking for my gloves :)

I am ready for spring.

I'll be outside today, wearing a T-shirt, cargo shorts & Crocs and soaking up sunshine in 63-degree, cool & windy weather, as I begin work on a 26-foot long street painting here in South Florida.

Later, after arriving home, I'll be heading out again, trekking across the intracoastal bridge to take a leisurely stroll up the Atlantic coast, where I'll dine at my favorite outdoor restaurant...on the beach, looking out over the ocean.

Life in paradise...where climate change is a mere flight of fancy.

It was -42 F (actual temperature) in Cotton, a small town in northern Minnesota two nights ago. Hibbing, where I live, had a balmy -30 F. It's nothing like last year, however. Last year was a winter like I remember growing up.

I just read that Gardiner, Mt had +66 degrees yesterday! Gardiner is a small town that is the gateway to the northern part of Yellowstone National Park. We were there during Christmas. We should be there now!

Climate is measured in decades not in individuals daily comfort levels.

I will have to move my show tonight from the Tiki bar stage to the indoor stage. Such a disappointment. The Patio bar will still be open and of course the gas heaters will be on. I haven't taken the orchids indoors in years. My GF is thinking about getting some close-toed shoes but if we get through tonight it will be a waste. I walked the dog in a t-shirt just so I could feel chilly. It was in the 40s. I enjoy looking a pictures of snow.

Mr. Fielding has apparently turned 'green' with envy.

It's so cold outside, the dogs don't bother sniffing around, they do their business and come running back in. It's 3 degrees with a windchill about 20 below. But Sunday it is supposed to get to 43.
This is nuts.

I once was up for a job in Wisconsin that would have been the best job I ever had. But, man, cold as hell! Sometimes I regret not getting the ob when it's 105 here in July. Not so much when it's -20 there in January and February.

61 degrees currently. We are supposed to get some winter weather over the next few days. Supposed to dip to mid 60's during the day.

Here in Orlando we broke a record set in 1958 last night. Got down to 30. My kids are so annoyed that I forgot to put a dish of water outside to see if it would freeze.

Taking the kids to school, I heard the newscaster say, "It's 33 degrees, but feels like 31". LOL Obviously every degree counts down here!

And yet my 13 y/o still insisted on wearing shorts.

In Connecticut…-3 degrees, the wind is howling and we have 3 ft of snow. Just holding on to the thought that in 3 months I will be sitting out on my porch rocking chair…watching the birds in the garden. Happy winter everyone :)

We hit 72 F yesterday in Albuquerque and the little snow in the mountains of NM and southern CO are foreboding another drought year. This is an El Nino year and is normal--although 72 is a bit warmer than normal. Climate change is a natural process. Stay warm. I hear you because I have a heat pump also and a few winters ago we hit -26 F at my house in Albuquerque; the gas back-up on the furnace kicked in to keep us warm.

It's been cold this winter in Missouri, but not as cold as it has been the past couple of years. We finally got our first real snow for this season this week. At night it's been around -5 with colder windchill (not sure what it was). Highs have been in the teens and 20's. Today we are supposed to get to 32 -33 but they are expecting participation. Depending on the weather when it comes it'll either be rain, freezing rain or snow. Wishing I was in a tropical climate by a beach somewhere. On the plus side, I had fun photographing a couple in the snow yesterday when it was around 10 degrees. The backdrop was beautiful though.

Like Mary in Kirtland, I'm also in the snowbelt of Cleveland, in Auburn, OH.
From -10 overnight now at -4 and warming up to +10 by this afternoon.
But with the mountains of beautiful white snow all around glistening in the sunshine, it is very beautiful!
My car is outside and frozen shut, but my office is in my home, I'm warm and safe, enjoying the tons of birds that come to feed..... so life is cold, but sweet!

Saint Clair, Michigan - National Weather Service website says our low last night was MINUS 29 F. Coldest I've seen in Michigan in my 64 1/2 years.

Been running my car for 20 minutes every night, and running my kitchen and bathroom faucets all the time. It was MINUS 26 when I got up Monday morning.

I'm beginning to understand how the people in International Falls, Minnesota feel in the winter.

I'm amazed how far south the negative temps have gotten this winter.

Two nights of freezing weather all the way down into the gulf coast! Wed. night in the low 20's and last night about 30. This weekend it is supposed to warm back up again! yeah!!! That is the winter pattern down here. We get just a few days of freezing here and there, just enough to turn all of my flowers to mush!

Could be a lot worse here (Omaha). Today we are even supposed to have a one-day warm up - getting to the low 40's by mid afternoon. I'm going out shooting. It's dropping right back into the 30's, 20's, teens starting tomorrow. Temps aren't so bad if the wind doesn't blow!
Looking forward to a week in Tucson 10 days from now, that's for sure!

In Wisconsin in February it's amazing how quickly I can feed, turnout and clean stalls. (We have miniature horses)
The horses are covered in thick "woolies" and are happy if the wind isn't blowing too bad though.
I find I can get through chores in half the time I do when the temps are above freezing!

Dealing with water outside when it's this cold is a real pain.

It's cold here in GA right now too. I don't have central heat. So now I have three space heaters. One in the kitchen, one in the cat room and one in my basement studio. My bedroom is cold, my bathroom is cold and it all brings back memories of germany and an old apartment I lived in for 10 years had heat out all the time. WHen the radiator heat went out we had no hot water either. At least I do have hot water right now. No fireplace.

I sleep with a knit cap, a thick shawl, a sweater and long johns under my jammies. Can't wait for it to warm up again.
Water is frozen outside so I have to boil water and pour it over the water trove outside, to supply the birds and stray cats with some water to drink.

I wish people around here would have enough heart to bring their dogs inside, poor animals howl all night. I would too.

Here on Jacksonville Fl. Beach it was 31 degrees this morning, but crystal clear with sunny skies. All the Eastern states cool air makes it's way down the coast in this area. However, tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny 70. Huge fluctuations in temps in this part of FL these last few days..

Cheers & try and stay warm!
