Are Vintage Images Allowed ?

I saw here posted quite many vintage images, advertising..etc., does it mean it's ok to upload them ?

Zalman, this is a can of worms. It depends on so many things. I would dare say that a portion of those posting such images and potentially infringing upon some copyright control in some way. Others would have rights or some other mechanism which has allowed them.

Perhaps, if you describe or show the image you are interested in posting more advice could be given. Keep in mind however we are not supposed to provide legal advice here. In the end the obligation, and therefore the risk, lies with you.

it depends what you mean by vintage. if the images are over 70 years then yes maybe. if it's an advertisement and the company is still around, then its a trademark violation. it depends where you get the ad from as well. ideally its better to be safe and either use PD images or take them yourself. many people here have a license to resell these things.

Thank you Justin and Mike. I was absent from FAA few years, came back again now. I thought the rules have changed.
But if to alter this 70 yr old vintage image in some way, then it's more or less safe I guess.

I take vintage to mean old film negatives or scanned pictures of family, friends...that are not violations of any copyright or other rules. I post my wife's family and my family pics that are at least 70 yrs old and on my wife's side 100 yrs old or better.
I believe it is not any violation if you are just posing images here and there is no profit being achieved.

NASA photos count as long as it's not tied to organizations like the ESA (who retain copyright).
