What Inspires You As An Artist.

I am inspired by nature, love, light, darkness and the infinite beauty that surrounds us both in our own minds and the external beauty in our environment.

I long to understand life, the universe and the higher forces that control this world we live in.

What inspires you as an artist?

Nature, energy, love and my inner spiritual life are my main inspirations. However, when the well has run dry and I have no fresh ideas or inspiration, I like to just begin to put paint on canvas and let serendipity be my guide. Some of my best work has happened this way. So, I guess I could say that I am also inspired by looking into wet paint. "Inspiration does exists, but it must find you working." Picasso

Light inspires me. The way light hits an object and causes long shadows and reflected light. Also the change of seasons. When it's fall I paint landscapes. In spring, flowers. That's why I paint a variety of subjects. Other artists paintings or photography often inspire me as well. And the older I get the more I want to try new techniques so that keeps the inspiration flowing.

Familiarity.

Nice edit, Marlene. Starvation doesn't help the creative process, so enough to feed oneself is a must.

My mood, death, the meaning of our life, anytthing that effects me as a human being.
Painting must be a fullfilling experience for me not a JOB. I do the same with cooking.
I wish I was like Marlene Burns.

Diana,
I have no choice, really. I made the decision to be a professional artist in 1966 and have never strayed.

From a drop of rain to a crack in the sidewalk to the sky looking like heaven and earth will collide to the smirk on a child's face to a building in ruins to a wind blowing peoples belongings away to the curve a beauties back to the grains of sand on the earth and everything in between..Life is art,art is life and creativity is a source of everything that parallels that ..it is a feeling of experimentation and wonderment and observation. It all inspires me even with the first time I opened my eyes that I can remember gazing from my cradle..observation, feeling, passion. Jean

Well I guess I just have a one crazy imagination, that I just have to put on canvass using the medium of papier mache. And see and feel that imagination into reality, ofwhich are my artworks.

I am too necessity motivated; bills to play and people that depend. But inspiration I associate with thinking and feeling, and you can't turn that off even if wanted.

You hear (maybe even know) people that are hard to entertain, that's not normally an artists. We're not limited to what's around us but to where our minds go. So I'm with David, if I'm breathing, I'm inspired. Motivated?, maybe not.
