New Equipment, Redo Locations?

Just wondering what people think about re-shooting locations after getting new equipment or learning new skills. This could apply to other artists as well.

When I got a new wide angle lense I went back to some old locations recaptured the scene. In some cases I changed the perspective a bit. Overall I think I improved some images I thought were a weak. I have my eye on another lense and may redo some other locations and replace the images. Just curious to see if others do this and if did you get more visits and sales?

ABSOLUTELY!

I have done it many many times for the reasons you stated in the OP.

I go back to old locations all the time... the lighting changes, the clouds change... the details change... It is unlikely you will capture the same shot twice...

I also go back to old raw files and re-process them from time to time... I'm just coming up to speed on luminosity masks and plan to revisit some of my HDR's... I think I can do a better job now...

I also mark locals in my mind often.... Come back and shoot when..... (Better light, clouds, early morning, fall, winter, spring, when there is cotton blooming in the field etc etc.) Sometimes I have waited a year to return at the right time.

@JC did you replace the new photo with the old on your artist site? Or added as a new photo?

@Chris I have been re-editing photos quite a bit especially when I learn something new. Luminosity masks is something I have not wrapped my head yet, but is on the agenda. :)

It's a great idea. I am in the process of remastering many of my older images as Chris has mentioned. New skills, software, and equipment make a huge difference.

Replacing the image in your POD from the previous image saves your place in the pecking order. A new POD sheet puts in the back of the line.

Yes.... OK, the answer is I have done both. Sometimes the reshoot is with a better camera and can offer larger prints but the image feels the same. Replace. Other times, different light and different feel, keep both.

I have redone lots of old photos and shoot at the same locations all the time.

Whether I replace or keep both... That depends on how different the photos are.

When I re-edit a photo, I will replace the old one.

When I re-shoot a location I usually just add because it's unlikely that it's as same as the old one to replace it. Sunset, sunrise, overcast, day, night, different seasons, different angles etc.

@Chris I was wondering about replacing images and how it would affect the search. That answers my question.

@Toby I have done that to. Depending on how different the photo is I might just do it as a new file, especially if the old photo is up to standard.
