Images From Private Gallery Showing In Newsletter

Last week 23 of my images showed from a wip gallery. This week 4 of them are in the newsletter. Has it always been like this?
This is an upload straight to the password protected gallery. When you click on the images in the newsletter, you have to have the password to go any further.
But, I really do not want them showing as new artwork until I take them out of that gallery.

Barbara, try logging out and looking again. I seem to remember a discussion about this. You may be the only one who can see them because you're logged in.

Thanks Murray. I wasn't logged in at the time, but I am now. I logged out and the images are still there.
I know it seems weird, but I am on my own watchlist. It is so that I can see what others see;))
I sent a ticket about it last week and contacted Abbie.

I asked one of my followers and they can see my private gallery images. So it's not just me seeing them, logged in or not.

I cannot answer here I'm afraid as I don't know. I have to wait :(

Are you putting the images in other groups, etc? I see that you have a password protected gallery with 56 images, but cannot view it. One thing I figured out is if you have the images anywhere else besides that gallery, then it's not private.

Images stay in the password protected gallery until I have time to put them in other galleries. They are not in groups either.

Thanks Abbie! I don't want this to go too far down the forum, so I'll keep bumping it up.

Barbara, what newsletter are you talking about? Where else are you seeing the private images?

Jessica, it's the weekly update newsletter from FAA. Last week 23 showed, so I asked one of my followers if she could see them and she could. This week the first 4 images in my private gallery were showing in the newsletter.

I thought the whole idea of a password protected gallery was to store images until you were ready to move them to your public galleries and groups.

In fairness to FAA, if you click on one of the images, it will take you to, not inside, the password protected gallery.

I found this thread that talks about others seeing images from private galleries.
I haven't heard anything new on this issue.

Barbara, a password protected gallery is usually not used in that way! When you upload they should go to your images and they can go into galleries from the edit page. What is your reason for holding them in private gallery? Password protected can be for certain people to see if you give them the password.

Why can't I put images in a password protected gallery and use it any way I want, within reason? Are there rules that say that I can only use a PWP gallery in a particular way?
Uploading and editing images is a very time-consuming process and many times I upload but am not able to edit at the same time. I may come back the next day or few days and edit some of the images, or add more to the pwp gallery.
I also use a pwp gallery when I find images in other galleries that need to be switched out. In fact I have another pwp gallery for that particular purpose. Sure hope there is not a limit on the number of pwp galleries I can have in my portfolio at one time!

I have tried to find the answer, and others have also, to why private images are showing in the FAA weekly update newsletter, but I think I can answer the question now.

Curiosity made me follow my own activity, so, as a watchlist member, those uploaded images are shown in the weekly update as "new images posted by watchlist members." Even though uploaded images land in the 'images' section of my website, I think these images should only be considered for use in the newsletter after they are edited and added to galleries. After all, on upload, if you don't add a title, tag and, I think, description as well, faa will not let you post the image. Try it, it will automatically stop and notify you that you need to add something, or forgot to add something. So even though, technically, I uploaded the images to faa, without editing, which includes putting them in a gallery, and in my case a pwp gallery, faa won't accept them. So, hypothetically, if faa won't accept them until I add this essential information, how can they be considered new uploads if when adding this info I also put them in a pwp at the same time. Thus, they never become available for public viewing at that moment and not until I later take them out of the pwp. Clear as mud, right?

I have belabored this topic enough, so will close this discussion.

You may do as you wish with your gallery (as long as legal ;)) I have done the same as you in the past, Barbara, as do any others. There is no one way to use the galleries, just the way people wish to use them.

It's a wee bit clearer than mud, Barbara, but there's actually a lesson there for anyone who wants to use keep pwp images completely private. Make sure you specify the pwp gallery BEFORE you press the submit button on the first edit page. If you don't, and even if you go back immediately to re-edit the images, they'll have been live on the site for long enough to be made public.

I learned this the hard way ...I was seeing password protected images on google images.. and I did everything according to what is stated so I just gave up doing it. and took them offline and finally they quit showing up in google although they had been off site for more than three weeks or so ..

It would be nice to have the option to hide or display the image.

I am repeating what others have said, never mind.

Thanks Abbie, for reopening this discussion and clarifying password protected galleries!!

Jessica, I assumed that using the pwp gallery was hiding the image from public view.

Jane, yes, if we forget and go back it's already to late.
