Tips And Hints - Easels

I am looking to start some hints and tips threads (we have a few and these are just continuations)

In this one please share your hints and tips about easels... perhaps what you use if painting outside, or sitting at a table, etc

Anything about your easel...what type do you use? Why?

I have four easels. Two cheap tripod easels for putting work to dry on, one H-frame I use to paint on and a small desk easel.

I have five easels. One like that in your photo above, two tripod easels that I use for exhibitions, one tabletop easel for small formats, one fold-up tripod for outdoor use which is crap. And my favorite, made by Lefranc Bougeois but no longer in their catalog, is a double easel. It can mount a picture on each side. Which in my small area is ideal because I can work on two pictures at a time just by turning round the easel.

My main studio consists of the all outdoors for my majority of painting which is plein air so I use a full French easel. But I also have a studio in our house but it is small so I try to utilize all the space possible. So a few months ago I took my stand alone easel, folded it flat and mounted it flat on the wall. That "saved" about 9 sq. ft, of floor space.
