Installing Gimp

Why am I getting all sorts of malware warnings from Kerpersky and even Google Chrome when I started to download Gimp in my new computer (Windows8)?

I'm sure I went to their bona fide site.

All this cyber stuff is getting me down....This new computer is fighting me every step along the way

I'm going back to what I know about and have on my old ,still chugging along Windows XP computer.

Do you think that Old Dogs Really Can't Learn New Tricks?

I'm with you Roger , whenever I do try to download something from a legit site - the add-ons are the biggest pain going. They know how to sneak them in there.

Windows 8 is wonderful and Gimp gives no complaints to anti virus normally

Are you here http://www.gimp.org/

You can set 8 up so you go straight to a 7 style desktop if that's easier.

This may make 8 much easier for you

Make sure it is updated (8.1)

Right click on your taskbar and open PROPERTIES
go to Navigation
Start Screen
Set it to go to desktop instead of start
Click OK

Now when you start up you will not see all the little app boxes but will be taken directly to the desktop we all recognise from all other Windows and you can work from there

If you need any help with 8 just holler. I adore it

I have Windows 7, downloaded the Gimp file from Mike's link in a discussion and my malware/spyware software went nuts. I have yet to open the file and install because of all the warnings popping up.

I had the same problem Kathy, I first of all I was not sure I had a valid link for the install. Even though I am on the IMAC I still have the fear of malware so I too uninstalled the download. I just followed the link provided by Abbie and could still not determine which link is the correct one to download for iMac with OS X yosemite 10.10.1.

I have never had any problems by downloading Gimp. Use the link Abbie has given above.

You can go to CNet to download Gimp.

Rule of thumb with any free software, with the exception of software from sourceforge.net, only download it from the vendor's web site.

Sorry, Lori, not even CNet, they don't vet the downloads before making them available. One of my co-workers downloaded freeware from CNet and infected his computer, and he's an IT guy.

Well, Abbie,,,,,,I"M HOLLERING

First of all, I have Windows 8.1

On this crazy version of Windows, I did right click on the taskbar

And instead of getting PROPERTIES I got::

Autohide Shelf
Shelf Position

NO PROPERTIES...So where do I go from there?

Everything seems so easy for everyone else and so difficult for me..

I AIN"T GIVING UP THOUGH

gimp was a disaster for me, huge memory managemnt and task completion problems, constantly hung and needed rebooting. disaster for me. good luck. im sure others master it.

Lots of Professionals using GIMP. A great program. The memory situation can be a problem if you don't have the capacity.
