Love The Pillows But...

To the folks at pixels, I hope the resizing and dragging gets better for the images. When I shrink the image to fit I get a warning that edges may show. Can you have it so the image snaps to fit the smallest possible size without showing edges? Also the drag is awkward and doesn't drag as much as I would like. These features are awkward. Thanks.

if your image is too small, then it's too small. the pillow wraps around to the edge, so you won't be able to pull the design more than it is. best to post this in the suggestion box though, this thread probably won't be noticed.

If your aspect ratio is suited for one format but not the other, just offer it in the shape that works. For example, some of my pieces are square and part of the image is cut off (in a bad way) on the rectangular size, so I only priced the squares. Likewise, some of my rectangular work looks awkward as a square because important parts are cut off. Although, there are a number of pieces that work in either format and for those I added prices to all of the sizes.

I don't know about this pillow business, I know photography is not recognized as true art, not by the "serious" arts anyway and I know everyone is trying desperately to earn a few bucks here but this? this is slightly degrading, I think so. I mean whats next, diapers, pens, napkins??
It feels kind of, we are scraping the barrel or something.

I have never viewed photography as an art, too young a media anyway, not even the old masters. Peter-Lik! just set the world-record is a sale. 6.5 million dollars for one of his photographs. He gets flamed all over the place for not being an artist, etc. What does that make us??

Even so, pillows, pens, this and that. I feel the place is losing its cache.

Just saying anyway.

I've said it again, as a photographer, I don't really give a crap concerning what anyone thinks as to whether what I do is art, whether I am an artist or any of that. I don't get wrapped up in labels. Also, if you don't want to sell pillow cases, it's real easy not to -- don't fill in any prices. I take this about as serious as I do old "WKRP In Cincinatti" reruns. I love, but it's not life and death.

@christian - photography is viewed as an art and has been since cameras came out. it all depends how you use it. its not degrading at all, the fact that we have a pod in the first place already lines up with your theory. if people want art on something else, that's their business. this is just an image on a thing. if your looking to be famous you shouldn't be on a POD. peter sold it, he was able to. everyone will make fun of that fact because they didn't earn that money. simple as that. but this is way off topic.

Did Frank Lloyd Wright think it was demeaning when he designed furniture for his homes? This is interior design. To surround yourself with beauty is not bad in my book. Personally, I love the pillows. Just saying.

It's all art in my book. It takes the same aesthetics and hard work to make a great chair as a painting. For those that practice the arts we know what it takes to make something that looks good!

I wish we had more pillow colors to choose from...

Peter Lik is one of the old masters of photography? Yikes!

I wonder if Georgi O'Keeffe knew she was married to an "non-artist". As Charle Brown likes to say "Good grief!"

Remember this......the pillows ARE iimages acquired by a lot of disciplines....NOT JUST PHOTOGRAPHY......all of which look wonderful on pillows, as accessories for one's home or office.....no different to chosing wall art........just more up close and personal.

My Painting - My Pillow.......

I think FLW would have loved this Pillow/painting

Edward!

No!! peter Lik is not an old master at all, he is a landscape photographer and his work is not art. Peter is an extremely clever business-man, master of self-promotion, etc but his photos are NOT art.
The people that are flaming him are doing it out of jealousy, thats all. Not jealous of his photography but the money.

Even so I doubt that he or his alikes need to sell pillows, pens, this and that.

Might as well take a walk down Petticoat-lane or the Casbah markets.

I would like the ability to set the default size/position on the product. The default view is centered which doesn't work for a lot of my images. I do horse portraits, for example, and the default position centers on the neck and the horse's nose is cut off. The image will fit fine and look nice if you just slide it over a tad so the nose isn't cut off. But I doubt everyone browsing the marketplace realizes they could fix that. They might just pass it up thinking they don't want to buy a pillow where the horse's nose is cut off. It would be nice if we could position it behind the scenes so the ideal view shows in the marketplace.
Same for phone cases.

the one that sold for the big bucks, - that was art. that wasn't just a photo. however it wasn't worth that kind of money.

peter has no need to sell on little places like this. if he wanted too he could stop selling and live off the money he just made.

Christian.....may I assume you disapprove of artists on FAA selling products other than wallart?

Christa, I agree with you! I would love to be able to do that as well. Could you copy and paste that to the technical people under contact us? I just sent them a comment too. If more people do that, perhaps they will change that. Thanks!

Vivian! of course not! but I mean, where is it gonna stop? I sell through Getty for tens of thousands every single year since 94 but thats stock, pics bought by ad-agencies, designers, this that. Different story.

There are tons of examples how businesses have started out with great intentions, keeping it rather exclusive, etc and then because of competition they feel they have to lower prices and standards only to more or less fade away like so many others. Sign of our times.

At the moment in many other forums, articles, independents, I can tell you, all these PODs are not exactly on top of the list.
