Canvas Print Reproduction, Matte Finish Canvas

I recently purchased a print of a vibrant sunset (Serengeti) on a matte finish canvas. The bright yellows displayed on the website came back a more lime green than yellow. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Sounds like a color space problem.

You can return it within 30 days and tell them why - that's a big color difference to be just a monitor calibration issue (most people don't calibrate their monitors like artists do, so some slight color variation from what you see on your computer screen can occur). They can have a look again at the color space the artist uploaded in and see if that's the problem, reprint and send back out to you.

Heather - just how much does it cost to return it? does FAA pay for the return shipping?

Roy - read the policy on this, you should know it anyways in case a client asks. I'll give you the bit that pertains to this case. The rest is in the Returns Policy and FAQs sections of the site.

"Fine Art America does not reimburse the outgoing or return shipping charges unless the return is due to a defect in quality."

Defect in quality would count for this as it seems to be an error in the color space.

If an image is saturated in specific colors, it is good for the seller to describe the colors in written words as well. The fact is that computer monitors display color differently. They are RGB (red green blue) while printed material is usually CMYK (cyan magenta yellow key/black). For example, this Chagall lithograph describes the work as "The colors are intensely saturated, bold, and fresh".

Thank you Edward, Heather and Robert. It seems likely that a sunset would be more yellow than green. The colour patches portrayed on the website rendition of the original shows reds and yellows as one would expect. The print is being return to FAA. At present the shipping is to be borne by me. I'll think about further action to try and recoup these costs with a claim that it is faulty reproduction.
