"couch Surfing" For Artists

Here's my idea. A lot of artists are traveling around the country doing art fairs and need a place to spend the night. Since hotels cost a lot of money and artists usually don't have a lot of money (not true in ALL cases) wouldn't it be nice for someone to start a "couch surfing" website artists. You let artists crash in your home when they are in your city for an art fair and vice versa. What say you?

For those of you who don't know what couch surfing is..........folks let people traveling through stay at their house for free. I've hosted several couch surfers and it was really interesting. No, they didn't murder or rob me.

Bicycle enthusiast do the same thing for each other, it's called Warm Showers (yeah, I know.....wink). My daughter rode her bike from St. Louis to New Orleans and stayed at Warm Shower homes and loved it.

Jane,

You're a heck of a lot more trusting than I am.

sounds really dangerous. good way to invite god knows what into your house from vermin to killers. while you might get a few that are ok. you'll get some that will probably rob you in your sleep.

People are totally paranoid. This is SUPER common with activities such as rock climbing, skiing, etc. It's a great way to meet people. Personally I generally don't like having people over, or sharing space with strangers but I know a lot of people in the outdoor communities that do this regularly.

you get to know people if your a part of a group - rock climbing bikes etc. but in general its not that safe. it's worse than picking up hitch hikers.

It's not so much trust as I'm not a fan of "strangers", or even people I know or relatives, overstaying in the house. I've been known to pay for hotel rooms for "friends and relations".

I am too much of a chicken for that. I would worry all night and not sleep, with a stranger in my home or me in a strangers home, either way....LOL

if they don't smoke, drink, talk , carry gun, stay up too late and bring their own food and bedding, I might consider .
