Plakative Arts

Today the Trent is increasingly towards art that discloses everything the viewer immediately. Ask the artist to the Internet during the flood of images, hardly anyone had time to deal alone with a work of art.

Click, click to the next image.

Art that the claim has dealt intensively with afflict her has little room in our hectic times. Purchased, images that need to be nice and not rather thought-provoking. What do you think?

Sorry for my bad English. I hope you can understand the sense

Yes Franziskus, I think that does happen...it's a weird world and I suppose not everyone wants to delve too deeply. As a copyist, I see no harm in it! It does depend on what gets a viewer thinking...in my defense, if someone looks at one of my paintings and it any part of it gets them thinking, for any reason, then I've done a good job...I don't have to start out with the intention of being thought provoking...and of course, everyone is different.

I've not understood why art should be "thought" provoking - and not just art enjoyed for itself. Art may be thought provoking - but it isn't a criteria for it being art. Art is many things: a recording of history, art that tells a story, "pretty" things, thankful things, hopeful/wishful things, and yes - even thought provoking. And each type of art has pretty much a place for it's display - religious places, home places, museums.

Franziskus,

It is not an either or.

But it is a matter of mediums.

My family loves to take the time to go to a museum. They will never take that sort of time
online with an image. Other than an image they will buy from me their loving son, brother, uncle.

The screen is smaller. It is lit up. The screen controls move you forward through images without shifting in
your seat. It is a different medium.

TV was worse. The viewers never had any art shown to them. Yes public TV did a thing or two. And Sunday mornings
you could get a how to on painting an image. A run through of how to paint. But you had no access to TV and still dont
for selling.

The artist must meet his medium head on. That does not mean art has to give up being thought provoking to be
on the internet.

BTW there are many great artists making digital art. It is just not necessarily your style of art. They do however
often, not always, deserve more credit and thought from you.

Not to "hijack" this thread - but David - could you explain this paragraph: "BTW there are many great artists making digital art. It is just not necessarily your style of art. They do however often, not always, deserve more credit and thought from you. "

I haven't seen where there was any comment about digital art nor where Franziskus denigrated it.

Franziskuz,

Art that is created strictly for decorative value is always popular, and probably more popular to the masses because it can be obtained for lots less money. Besides, the general masses are thinking lots about what will go over their couch or fit in the dining room. Something thought provoking and with an analogy of sorts isn't a priority is most cases. A large sunflower or production field of flowers will do.

The other side of the coin is... those who buy from someone communicating in their art are usually much more loyal and liable to purchase more than just one. They become collectors.

Roy,

I never said Franziskus was "denigrating" nor talking about digital art. But his comment above led me to discuss digital art in comparison to Frankziskus' fine art.

From what I saw a month ago Franziskus has some great art. I believe at that time I complimented him personally on his work. But I can see
where in a different medium, a PC monitor, his art does not fully fit. This is problematic for him. His art belongs in a museum or a larger gallery space. JMO

That does not mean that some digital artists, read internet artists, can not produce thought provoking work. They do.

Franziskus,

Our interests in fine art are more similar perhaps.

I was very critical of other forms of art. As I work I become more respectful
of how hard others work. I put my criticism aside for an obviously hard working artist,
regardless of my preferences.

I find selling on the internet a waste land, a nonhuman way of doing business, it is totally impersonal.
After my first very deep shock, I got over that. I make contact at times with some twitter followers. Just
a "thanks for the compliment, Dave" If they want more they can say so.

I know how you feel about the lack of real people involved. On the flip side of that there are tens of millions
of people involved.

I can not live in an existiential reality/crisis for very long. Just not me. I need to be more grounded.

"click, click to the next image."

There is more behind the clicks in how I see things. But that is still developing in my mind.

Thank you Dave for your honest words. Yes, the digital art is not yet taken seriously in the real art scene. Although Gerhard Richter, our greatest German artist even now makes digital art.

I think critical art also does not fit into the living room. Since then fits better decorative and beautiful to the eye.

Here in the forum I am often criticized to the personal into it. It's just not always easy when you pronounce the truth regarding commerce, kitsch, greed and personal preference.
