150 Character Limit On Greeting Cards

Hello Fellow FAA Members,
I have been attempting to create thank you notes form the 5x7 greeting cards. I read online the text character limit is 500. But when I reach the 150 character spot I receive a message that I have reached the 150 character limit. Has anyone else experienced this and can any one offer guidance? I have an email into FAA but I have not yet heard from them.

Sincere Thanks,
Joseph Fuller

Joseph - could it depend on how you are spacing your words ?
Perhaps it is 500 "spaces" - rather like we have here for keywords.

Hello Janine, Thanks for the quick reply. I am not quite sure what you mean about spaces? If you mean a space between each word counts as a character then I understand that and I am still not at the 500 level. And the message I receive states I have met the 150 character limit. Thanks for the help. Joseph

Yes, you understood. That is the best that I can think of.

Perhaps refresh your page - & sign out - clear your cache - & try all over again. Good luck

Wow. Ten more than Twitter! Would you be willing to cut and paste what you have so far to let us see? I don't mean to if it's overly personal, but it might hlp us see what is going on. With that said, I suspect Janine is correct that it's 150 total spaces, even if they are blank.

Now one thing you could do is to put a shorter, more generic thanks you on the card through FAA and then write the rest of it in your own hand before they are sent out.

Thanks Joseph and Janine. Below is what I would like to add to the inside... I am heading out for a few hours but will be back online later. If need be I will take your advice Joseph and add some notes later. You can also see the picture I want to use in my profile.

Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for your support. Because of your generosity, we were able to surpass our goal of $2000. Please know that your donation is being put to good use: funding MS research, giving many individuals financial assistance, providing support to the families of MS patients, etc.
The weekend turned out to be so much more than we expected. We met so many wonderful people who are so committed to the cause and we cycled alongside 22 riders who are living with MS. It is hard to express in words the awesome feeling we felt and how honored we were that in some small way we were able to help find a cure for MS. We are inspired to build our mileage as well as build our Team for next year.
Again, thank you so much for your wonderful encouragement and generosity. May God bless you for your kindness.

Sincerely,
Joseph and Sarah

I copied and pasted this into a Word document and did a word count.

156 words
695 characters with no spaces
856 characters with spaces

I'd say your message is over the limit. First I would try to cut a few words to see if it really means "words". If that doesn't work, you will have to really condense your message or do as Joseph suggests and combine a typed with a handwritten note. It would take longer, of course, but I think would be more meaningful (not meant as a criticism of your original intent and message but rather as a consolation for the extra work it would entail to do it this way).

How many cards are you ordering? If the bulk cards do not usually come flat, maybe you could check with customer support to see whether you could get your flat. Then you could print whatever you wanted to inside at home. I really suspect the limit is 150 characters - that's a lot of verbiage in a greeting card - and there's no way to get your message down to that. I'm pretty good at condensing and I got it down to
94 words
456 characters w/o spaces
617 characters with spaces

I can't imagine getting it down to less than a quarter this length in a way that would meet your needs.

Odd

Forwarding to Abbie to make sure she sees this.

Thanks for getting me JC

I believe it should be 500 that includes your spaces and punctuation... however, I have never added more than about 30 so not sure

I will let Sean know about the 150 popup

Thanks all for the help! Didn't realize the count got up that high and the pop up confused me. I am more and more impressed with FAA and this community the more I use it. Can't believe you all jumped in so quickly to help me. I will take your advice and condense the message to something less then 500 characters and add some personal notes. Another option maybe to print it on an insert. I do like the idea of a personal hand written note though. My 15 year old daughter and I did this Bike MS together... sounds like a good task for her. Nikolin, there will be about 40 cards in total. I sincerely appreciate all the work you put into it for me.

It is 500 characters inc spaces

I'll pm you the text at 527 characters with spaces. You should be able to tweak that without too much problem

Thanks again Nikolyn! I sincerely appreciate it.
