Topaz Clarity Plugin On Sale

The latest Topaz program on sale is their Clarity plugin.

Not to be confused with Adobe Lightroom and Camera Raw clarity sliders, this plugin is useful for increase of image’s levels of micro, midrange, and overall contrast. The effect is somewhat similar to NIK's Tonal Contrast preset in their Color Efex Pro plugin, but Topaz Clarity has many more options, and it seems to be doing better job, when it comes to halos and noise.

I have used it routinely for several months now in combination with Topaz Denoise or Adjust. There are over 100 presets available at your disposal, but I use just a few, and even then sometimes I dial them slightly back. If you like contrasty images, you will like this software.

Usually, I run all my images through the Adobe Lightroom first, but in this case for the purpose of demonstration, I skipped the Lightroom phase and processed the image below just with Topaz Clarity program. The bottom image half is unmodified - unsharpened and without any tonal adjustments - exactly as it came out from the camera, while the top portion was processed with the Topaz Clarity "Color and Contrast Boost II" preset, including addition of some detail adjustments and selective color saturation (while in this preset).
One click to select the above preset, few slider movements, and the resulting effect is quite dramatic - akin to a removal of an obscuring plastic sheet.

That looks like a good one to have, Les. I guess they've had so much success with all of the 50% off sales that they've decided to offer less of a percentage off on this and the last program available. The DeNoise and Adjust programs have already paid for themselves in my book.

I like the Clarity program a lot. Thing is, it keeps crashing on me. I'll have to contact Topaz and see what's going on. I've had it for a couple of years now with no problems until recently.

Carol,

if you have the original version, you should be able to download and upgrade it at no cost. I got mine earlier this year, and haven't experienced any crashes with it.

Les, I have the entire Topaz Suite (except for the latest painting program) and am very happy with it. I read somewhere that all i have to do is reenter my key or something like that. I'm not overly concerned. It's just a matter of finding the time to do it :)

You have a point there, Greg. I was wondering myself about the change in the discounts. Maybe we'll have to wait till Christmas for the 50% sale.

I just wrote a mini review of Topaz Clarity and placed on my blog.
Here is the link:

Topaz Clarity Review

The first example in the review is the same, as already shown in the opening post of this discussion, but then I added a second example that demonstrates the Tonal Adjustments capabilities of this plugin. The example images are nothing spectacular, just your everyday snapshots, but they demonstrate quite adequately the program capabilities and features.

Combining the contrast, saturation, and tonal tools in one plugin makes it a very strong and convenient program to address most common corrections in the photographic images we all face.
