This is not new. Been like that as long as I have been here.

I think if we take a look into the way back machine, all the features did show up at one time, but it got changed a while ago ... and never changed back.

Only three at a time Charlie, the fourth feature bumps the first etc etc. Your ratings stay the same, once featured always featured unless you delete the pic.

The less the better. I only like being featured for whatever publicity or search boost I may get. Having a prominent link to other work competing with mine is not something I really want, but it does work both ways.

That's an interesting way to look at it Bradford, I never thought of that. I just saw it as a nice purchasing incentive to anyone considering a buy ... that maybe they'd see an image they were interested in had been "featured" lots of times... and think, hey .. I have good taste! I'm going to buy this one!!!

I tried for a long time to keep up with the features and note them either in the comments section or description but the whole process got away from me. : ((

i'd rather have a grand number then to show up as featured under both the summer and spring groups. it serves little purpose, but yeah for about a year and half now it's been 3. it should say, has been featured in 59 groups. that would sound more impressive.

Thanks guys! I agree Mike I wish it would list a number! Definately helpful to understand how it works though. Lois- I wonder if adding the names of groups featured in to the description would be good or bad for google search? i.e. a group named "women who run with wolves". I ask this after reading this blog

" Google or pretty much any other search engine has categorized your artwork as being about the subject you gave in the title, but if your description does not echo those terms, it becomes a bit more dicey. Could it be you were misleading people with the title – kind of an internet bait and switch? You said it was beach in the title, but maybe your entire description centered around how much you love the coast. The search engine will likely decide that your offering is of lower value and place you behind other similar results. "

Interesting info, Charlie!! Very interesting!!

Mostly when I was trying (well, when I DO try) to keep up with listing the features, I reference them in the comments section ... does Google care about that? Only infrequently did / do I reference them in the description.

Interesting discussion guys, I've spent a couple of days scratching my head over this, wondering why an image of mine featured in multiple groups was only showing 3 feature boxes.

I agree there should be some way of showing if an image is featured in multiple groups, if only on the basis that a would be buyer may think "hey, if fellow artists like it, then it must be a good piece of work".

Great discussion!

One day, I was looking over the shoulder of a local client -- who just happens to have a long, successful, history in both public relations and advertising -- while he checked out my AW. He mentioned that civilians (not artists) "might be positively influenced" by group features, and that, if it were his website, he'd announce each and every one!

I replied that group features were "nice, but really no big deal" and he responded, "To you and other members of this site they may be 'no big deal'. But consumers like success. They love owning things that other people think are desirable. I think you're missing an opportunity, here."

Well, who am I to argue with that? :-)

Since that day, I've used the comments section to announce almost every group feature. (I miss a few if I'm really busy.) It's a way to self-promote without saying, "I think my artwork is awesome!"

Instead, I can say, "XYZ Group thinks my artwork is awesome!" :-)

I've noticed that I pay attention to other artist's Features, too. Not that I believe a Feature means the art is 'better' -- but it does mean that the work has been noticed and highly complimented -- which just might be seen to validate a potential buyer's own opinion.

Also, though I don't really want a dozen or more group badges on my product page (as Bradford mentioned), I do like seeing the variety of groups that choose to Feature one of my images. :-)

David and and Wendy , great points! Ideally I think I'd like it to have it look the same; with the ability to choose the 3 we want to display at the time underneath (ie if its Christmas time I would want buyers to see it was featured in a group like wall art or winter wonderland... something Christmas related that is a hot search topic at the time) plus the total # of features would be a hyperlink they could click on for a pop up of the whole list so as not to crowd the page. Something like:

This image has been featured by "group1" "group2" "group3" as well as "#" more!

Pipe dreams lol? I know they must be overwhelmed with the new changes and suggestions for that.

I agree, It should said how many times it had been featured, and should at least show more than 3 groups. Maybe 6 so it's not to cluttered but shows the popularity. I try to write in the description when and where the photo had been featured. A win win situation for both the photo and the group.

Its clutter that doesn't help the buyer find the buy button. If anything it just provides more links to go elsewhere.
