Sold My First Film Photograph Today - Well Sort Of

I finally sold my first film photograph today! Yippee!

Photography Prints

I also received my first ever quality issue email from FAA, stating the photo is too noisy. I jumped into a cab to my lab (don't worry, cabs are cheap in Bangkok, it only cost me about $2.50 :) ) to have a better quality scan made on their Imacon scanner. The previous scan was run-of-the-mill I think, made in Japan. Hopefully the better-quality scan will give me some headroom to address the quality issue so that the sale can go through.

Fingers crossed, Im going to pick up the scan later this afternoon and re-upload it to FAA.

Good luck on that sale, Dean! I too have some digitized film images on FAA, but due to not so great quality, I made them mostly with textures or other treatement. Its so sad as with my film camera i have been in such exsiting destinations as Australia, HongKong, Singapore,France,,Italy,Greece,India and so on - really pity its not a printable quality - also due to the age of films..

Well, I've just added a higher-res version with some noise reduction applied. Here's hoping it will pass!

Congratulations Dean, it's good to know that film photography still sells or at least that's what I felt when I sold a few of mine in the past.

Thanks Richard, still waiting on word from FAA HQ though to see if it actually sold :)

I think the new version should print. It's a scan from a slide, so they should factor that in. Looks good to me.

Not from a slide, but a negative - Ilford HP5, which is kind of grainy anyway. Still no word from FAA hq

Well, the point I was making is that it's a digital print from an analog source and hopefully they will take that into consideration. The grain works well in that vein in my mind.

Hi Dean, I think grain looks good in this shot...good luck...hope it's ok.

You gave it your best shot. Best of luck.

Dean,

Congrats!

What I might do, if you have more of these images on your site and shot with HP5, is to add to your descriptions, that "HP5 is the Ilford film, most closely producing images as did Kodak's Tri-X, which was noted for it's contrast and grain." Something like that...........

AND get better scans if needed! LOL!

thanks folks. Still no news from FAA. Is no news good news?

The 48-hour replacement window has closed and the print is still listed as sold. When I just logged in though I still saw the 'there is a problem with your image' warning. Asked FAA just now whether the sale has gone through.

For future prints, what about a color code for sold prints? Green is OK, Red is rejected, orange is pending after an image was replaced.

OK just received an email from Dawn - new upload accepted, sale went through :) Actually a 30" print too. I'll invest my earnings in more film I guess, or some more high res scans!

Good job. I am rather concerned about this on some of my 35mm film shots myself and often limit sizes offered.
