Pricing Prints

Hello! I am a brand newbie! I am wondering if anyone has a formula for pricing prints...? Thank you!

Welcome to FAA! I like to set my prices according to my market. For example, I feel like my market is young people, aged 18-25, so I set my prices starting at $14 for a 6x8 print. Its reasonable, but not too cheap.

All depends on your target market, your quality and the value of your brand.

BTW - I can't imagine to many 18 year olds shopping for fine art.

Hi April.
That is one of the most common questions here and you will get many different answers.
The way I did it is to look at a selection of images similar to my own and the worked out an average price. It's a good place to start and you can change it at any time

@ Floyd

I totally agree. As long we are not a new Ansel Adams or Helmut Newton, we have to see the market realities.

$14 for an 8X6 seems really low, no matter what the target audience is. Also, April, you have set your art prices up as the same thing for all the different sizes. The larger the price, the larger the price. Geerally, it is best to offer large prints when possible. I cringe when I have to upload something at 2048 pixels wide. I'd rather never have my largest size that small. If I remember right, your art is no more than 1400 pixels wide.

Hi April... I have recently reviewed my pricing. I originally followed the advice offered by faa on the pricing page and I increased my prices in line with the sizes.. However..on further consideration I have decided to charge the same markup across the board. There is a little variance with the smaller sizes but I don't see any logical reason for asking for a bigger markup every time the size increases.. So basically I will take the same for a 30x40 as I do for a 40x60.. Faa's material prices obviously increase with the bigger size, but I'm only charging for them to use the file...so why should mine?

regarding 18 year old's and fine art.. My 2 most recent sales inquiries came from a 17 yr old student looking for something to spruce up his college digs, and an 11 year old girl wanting a piece for her bedroom... Not fine art no...but prints yes!
