How Is Image Licensing Working Out?

Because I am an exclusive iStock contributor I have not opened my work up here for either RF or RM. But I am curious how it is going for other people and if they are making sales here. Thanks!

Not yet for me, although before I kept there just about 20 images for pretty long and couple weeks ago sent there almost all my gallery - about 2000 images - excluding some works. But I didnt hear anything up to now from there...

I haven't seen any talk about it in the forums in a long time.

People contact me quite often want to use my work for commercial endeavors. I average about one such request a week. I've tried both sending them to the licensing portal and handling it myself. If I send them to the licensing.pixels.com thing, they NEVER buy a license...a 0% success rate. If I handle it myself though, I usually sell it. I would say about a 70% success rate.

I would certainly prefer it if the licensing portal worked as I hate having to draw up contracts and send them back and forth for signatures.

Hmmm, sounds like licensing requires a bit of hand holding. That's why I work through an agency.

I didn't opt into the licensing part of FAA......I'm still wondering when the AW site update will happen.

I found it at first frustrating, trying to purchase the same image with multiple “rights managed”. When you choose one choice, say packaging, and put it in the cart then when you want to “continue shopping” it doesn’t return to the same image, nor the same artists. Then I realized just click on “back”. The cart doesn’t say what type of license, just shows "rights managed" and price.

As an artist, the agreements are too cookie cut, with only slight changes in the License Grants. I don’t like when they use etc in the example area, it is far too open and vague. Too many loopholes when they purchase.

Especially since the purchaser isn’t required to list what items they will be using them on or for, such as with “Digital Publishing” They are allow one digital publication on, say like in a magazine. Just purchase one license and no fields to fill in, at time of checkout, on what magazine. What is to prove what magazine it will be used in?

Also I don’t like the no restrictions in quantity or size with many of them.

Too many issues for me to go with Pixels.com, I’d rather have more control and assurance.

Edward, what agency do you use, if you care to share?
