Who's going to buy an apple watch? I don't have an iPhone, so i won't be (the only apple product type that i don't have).

The only apples I watch - are the ones ripening on the tree or appearing at the grocery/produce. And I'm looking forward to Honey Crisp apples again this year - even if I have to go to the mountains to get them.
as for Apple (tech) products - don't own any - and probably never will - unless I win the lottery.

i have a general watch. i didn't think people with phones wore watches any more. mines solar/atomic, i doubt i will replace it any time soon.

seems cute, but you would have to look at an even smaller screen. it would mean it will always know where you are, even if you leave the phone at home, and even measures your pulse. i don't see any real advantage over a normal watch. and you need a phone to use the watch, seems kind of lame, that it's not a stand alone, even if it doesn't make calls, what would be the point. it would look silly talking into it, can't play games with it. basically its a $300+ unit that might tell the time (it didn't have it on any of the screens on that page), a gps i think it said, a gyro at least, and a pulse monitor. i can buy a pulse monitor for less.

No Apple products for us.
I used to wear a watch when I was working. If I need to tell time while out and about now I look at my old trusty Motorola Razr phone. I've had that thing for 7 years, and it still makes and receives calls. :)

Mike - you have a 'general' watch - does it have stars on the sides?
I have two or three watches - including a very nice pocket watch I bought about 50 years ago - they all reside in the nightstand drawer, those that require batteries and the wind up - none are giving the time anymore - two are blank - one is stopped wherever it was when the spring unwound. I haven't worn a watch in the last five years - I don't carry a cell phone regularly - and even then it is usually turned off (got over 10K minutes on it). There is a radio clock on my nightstand - so I know not to get up at 3 a.m. but to wait until 5.

From the link, Mike provided:
"...The band comes in several colors, such as pink, blue and white..."
Ain't that just spiffy. With those colors, who is it marketed towards? Ladies, kids?
yes.
the watch tells the time. its actually its specialty.
it's solar rechargable, gshock, waterproof, and does the usual things such as barometric pressure, compass, and temperature (as long as you don't mind it being about 10deg off). i don't need another device to make it work, other then a wrist to mount it on.
i wonder when the I-shirt will come out. where i can look down, poke my tummy and make a distorted call.

the apple page goes at length describing the watch case is made of. i'm half way down the page. and all they talked about is this highly reflective, fingerprint smudging thing that has a metal body and a sapphire screen which seems overkill for a watch. in fact they don't go over the features at all, i have to rely on blogs and rumors.
http://www.apple.com/watch/apple-watch-sport/
if you need more info, you can see all the colors it comes in - yet no features. the main thing i would want to know when i buy a watch.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/9/6125873/apple-watch-smartwatch-announced
they also go into the style of it. and while they mention siri and gps - being that you need the phone to make it work, it sounds like those only work if you have the phone on. so basically it's an novelty, oversized joke watch that will cost $350.

I won't. Don't own anything Apple, don't plan too.
Generally though what Apple puts out seems to sell well, but with this one I predict a failure. Watches are old hat. How many people under 40 wear a watch today? Not many. Moreover the size seems to be it's biggest enemy. I know people that love their smart phones but soon buy a tablet because the smart phone is just too small for a lot of things. And the watch screen is even smaller. And this whole "smart watch" thing has been tried about 1/2 dozen times since the early '90s. None made it past their first generation. Of course Apple will take it to a whole new level, but I just don't see the point.

"...basically it's an novelty, oversized joke watch that will cost $350. "
Which people will buy just to have the latest Apple thing. I look at it like the "Smith's keeping up with the Jones"' thing. So, now I envision someone with the Apple phone on their wrist, their Apple phone in their pocket or purse, and, to top it off so to speak, a set of Google glasses places strategically on their face. :)
I guess they will also have to do a Selfie of themselves wearing that stuff just to keep up with that phase also. ;)

they want the latest phone. i'm not sure there are gadget guru's like there once was. a watch that doesn't seem to default to today's time seems kind of odd. and it's huge for a watch, too small to be of any other use.
hey got the time? sure hold on, let me turn on my phone, then the watch app, then transmit, and then now, i will hit the time button, which is under the function button, which is under time. and by the way, my pulse is 88. makes me wonder what steve jobs would have said about this one.
they never mentioned a camera, it would good for selfies, but not much more. until apple can highlight the features of this thing and not the materials, they can't convince me.

I have a watch. I use it to tell time. Novel idea, I know... And that is all I want it for.

What a lot of people don't know is that smart watches are not exactly a new technology. Samsung actually manufactured their first smart watch last year. As far as I know Samsung has done decent in sales with theirs but I'm currently watching apples keynote as we speak. I think apples will blow samsungs out the water solely based and apples cult following and the design of it. The one thing I don't like about the samsung watch is it is big and bulky looking. Being a woman I don't like how it looks on my wrist. I have to give it to apple they do have some really good designers. I like the option of being able to switch out the bands and having two face sizes to choose from. As for having to have an iPhone. This is currently how all of the smart watches operate but it's rumored that Samsung is planning on creating a smart watch that will hold a SIM card. If that's true then their model will not require a smart phone to operate it. Still I will most likely buy the apple watch.
I do see smart watches as being the new wave of the future. Just like the iPod. I think they will take a lot of heat in the beginning but in a year or so everyone is going to want one. With how popular fitness trackers are getting. It's kind of inevitable and apple is very good at marketing. I'm actually a little disappointed in myself. I'm wishing I bought stock before the announcement.
As for the new iPhone. I am kind of disappointed with that. All the technology has been done by samsung and google. While it sounds like they have some good improvements on that technology. "Apple pay". Is nothing new. I am curious to see the camera though. I wish they made it a higher mega pixel but the faster focus and larger aperture sounds promising.

Oh plus smart watches have a very cool factor. You kind of feel like Dick Tracy wearing them ;)

I don't wear a watch, because I don't want to know what time it is. So, no... but it looks beautifully designed. Actually, since just about everyone has a cell phone, what do you need a watch for?

“i knew the net wouldn't fail me when i typed grandfather clock wrist watch.”
I too type some weird stuff into the google search box.
Try typing “shoe phone” into the search box.

Speaking of watches and technology, I actually knew high school students who could not tell time on an analog watch (the kind with a minute and second hand for anyone that might have forgotten ;) ). They could only do it if reading digital numerals.

The Apple following is even bigger and more loyal than the Pentaxians.... :o)
It will sell and it will sell big. (I would bet money on it if I had money to buy Apple stock.)
That said, Samsung has had one for a while now but sorry Abbie you will need the S5 to make it work. Speaking of the S5, WELL worth it though I will not be getting the watch.

Breitling for my tastes in expensive watch but I will have to have more money than I know what to do with before spending 10K on a watch.

Uh Oh! I better be nice! I like to keep it within range, more possibility of getting one! I even looked for a previously owned one, $1200 for the one above.

I don't like to wear a watch but I might be tempted to buy this one in a year or so. I am getting old and feeble and I need all the help I can get. Nice to have a second better brain attached to my wrist. I hope it's waterproof for all that money.
