Loyalist Militiaman At The Moment Of Death, Cerro Muriano, September 5, 1936.

I remember some time back that the "Falling Soldier" photograph by Robert Capa was in the news again. This photo was always surrounded by stories of it being staged. It depicted a "freedom fighter" falling after being shot. A couple of years ago a suitcase was discovered that contained negatives from Capa's collection. Initial stories about the discovered negatives indicated that they contained the series that included the "Falling Soldier". This would have been a huge discovery because it would finally put to rest the staged theory. And then the story disappeared. Has anyone every heard of the outcome of this discovery?

"The Capa Cache". The New York Times. Retrieved 2013-10-19.

The negative was not found in the suitcase and the location is not Cerro Muriano but is Espejo. Capa was known to falsify or stage scenes and claim them to be journalism. Not wise for a journalist but it makes me no difference. There is no consensus this image is genuine nor a staged image.

Thanks, Robert! The whole story fell off my radar screen. I surprised that the discussion didn't generate more interest from photographers. Thanks again!
