I am curious?
What legal issues prevent you from posting your images?

Welcome Bethany, I've just joined myself 25th of August so I'm new here also, haven't sold anything yet, have been told though this is the best place to come to sell your originals and prints, hoping people will like my work as I'm not professional just amateur... I have not paid for my membership yet, but will do so soon, I'll certainly check your work out and support you, as I only have one follower at the moment... :)

The legal issues are the photos I have of the kids interacting n activities or coloring etc. for church stuff. I only took those specifally for the church so if I "sell" photos of the kids without permission...well...I just wouldn't want to do that.

Bethany, I recommend you only upload your best work. I know,... I've been guilty of the same thing... "I took the pictures so, they're all good!"

But honestly 6 or 9 or 12 pictures of the same girl (or cat) makes your page feel amateurish. (Which you may be. We all were once.)

You've got an eye and some very nice shots. Use the best ones.

With that said, I'm now thinking perhaps you may have been hired (or as a favor) to take their photo (or trying to build a portfolio) and have put them all up so they can choose which one they want printed & sent to them by FAA. You may want to consider setting up your web page so that it displays your galleries not all the images at one time.

When I have shot portraits for people I create a "Private Gallery" which only they can access with a password. The only unfortunate drawback by doing this on FAA is that those images will appear with all the rest of my images when you select the "Artwork" tab on my page. This is something I am hoping FAA can change in the future. But in the meantime by having my web page default to my galleries, the viewer sees 1 representative image for each gallery and none of the "Private Gallery" images.

And never forget, everyone - me included - has an opinion. Only you can decided what is right for you.

I like this shot.

Photography Prints
These days of digital cameras you can't expose for the blacks and develop for the whites like the good ol' days of film. You have to expose for the whites and fix the blacks. This would have been a much nicer shot if it weren't clipped.

A rule of thumb. Never shoot a woman with the camera below eye level. (Unless she's a model who can take it). The heavier the woman - the higher the camera.
Photography Prints
She has a pretty face. But, if you raised the camera her face would begin to look thinner and the viewer's eye would be drawn to her eyes first instead of her chin.
Also, if she had turned her head slightly to the sun and was side lit, that would have helped thin her face as well.

I can feel your enthusiasm for photography. Keep shooting. That's the only way we get better.

In the interest of fairness, here's my page for your critique. (If you wish).

Hi Bethany and welcome.
Some good advice from Larence.
As he says if you make galleries and make galleries your home page it stops anyone visiting seeing all your images at once in a big jumble.
Think about having different titles for your images. It gets boring to see the same title and suggests that you couldn't be bothered to think of any new ones.
Have a description for all your images including the title of the piece and your name.
Go back again and have a look at your images and delete any that after having a second look isn't really up to your standard

What I tell FAA newbies when they ask us for a critique of their work....I tell them to research the great artists who do the type of work the newbie is doing....even if its frog photography, someone is a master of it (honestly). The Internet gives us access to all the great artists past and present.

If you are a still life photographer/painter, look at the great masters of this style. Be honest in your evaluation of your work and how it compares to the masters....

Marilyn, please open your own thread as that is not to do with this topic
