Common Thread

We have many differences here at FAA but the common ground is a love of art. Art rocks, no idea what I would do without it! How about you, do you agree?

100% Ronald, their are many subjects here that get discussed, some to my dismay, but who am I to judge. I have found some of the most valuable information in a thread discussing Story Art, I really took away some powerful ideas that I have implemented into my sculptures and am so pleased with the results. I only wish we had more of these type discussion, as I know I can walk away with something of value, truly making the time spent
worth while.

I also think the diversity and differences of ideas are what make it even more meaningful. If we all like the same things, oh what a boring world it would be.

Ronald, one other thing that I notice people usually are able to find common ground are politics and religion (JUST KIDDING), no, but what I was saying is food and art ,although the art tends to be a subject that generates more passionate discussion the food subject really is some thing people enjoy and will talk about in very endearing terms.

I am interested in what art do most of us love in common. From past threads, the great masters' art of the renaissance I dare say is a good start.

art is to eyes what music is to the ear. I seem to like it all as long as it resonates with my emotions. If it doesnt well i just move on.

Drew, perhaps, but not mine I like a more modern feel. Picasso is a starting point. The thread is aimed more at an overall love of art than a specific who do you love the best, kind of thing.

Art in many circumstances gives the artist a voice. The ability to connect with a common cord. From the time when humanity was painting on the cave walls and developing the foundations of abstract thinking to modern electronic communications, artists define civilization. The humanistic spirit of pushing the envelope is what is loved. Call it art if you like.

Marlene - I not been banned yet - close maybe - but no cigars. not trying to either - although - maybe a couple days off would be 'pleasant' for everyone.

While many stereotypes are portrayed regarding artist, those who conform to them do so out of a self fulfilling prophecy. For me, I have very little in common with those who call themselves artists. What I do believe is a common trait shared by those who I call artist is a strong since of individualism often coupled with antisocial tendencies: )

The concept of the "crazy" artist may largely date back to the number of artist who accidentally poisoned themselves with the materials in use, mostly lead.

Ronald: I hated to generalize about any group of people. My observations are just as flawed as anyone else and probably more than some. What ever this thing called art is, it is a social thread that links us all.

Society as expectations.......starving in an attic is one, crazy, not dependable are others. I agree many artists try to fit those descriptions. I just never felt the need...and those who hired me, were grateful.

Everyone up here calls themselves an artist (except of course those who eschew the title). And I salute that, but what we each consider art is often as different as night and day.

That is an awesome point Kevin!
