Do Shots With People Work?

Gang, I have asked this before, but I was particularly wondering about this shot. I like the people in it. I can see it as a postcard. But would it work as a wall canvas with these people? Will buyers be put off?

I could hang it up on my wall, but probably because its my shot, taken on my trip, and I had a marvellous time. So for me it has memories. But I think the people add to the story.

Less than one percent of my sellers had people in them. And if they did, it wasn't a whole person, just a cropped part.

I guess its more a stock photo. Would work with people.

With stock -- people sell!

I like it! Its not like the people are just milling around gawking at it. I would hang it on my bedroom wall. The light is so pretty!

Parker, you nailed exactly my two thoughts. LOL. Thats why I like it as wel.

It just might not sell I am afraid.

It's hard to give a pat answer. My best-selling image on FAA has people in it prominently: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/bright-lights-of-temple-bar-in-dublin-ireland-mark-e-tisdale.html

I think it depends on what the buyer is looking for. Local flavor or pure architecture?

PS. I like people in images, so I have no problem with the image, people and all. And our opinions on it will vary as much as the buyers.

Haha, Mark, I know that place. I live in Dublin. I will probably end up Temple Bar on Friday again ;)

Loved Dublin, so I'm jealous. ;-)

And a search for Temple Bar coincidentally shows images with and without people that have sold. I think as in all things, the question is if the image is compelling not whether X or Y ingredient is there or not. My two cents.

That makes sense :)

without people you would have an empty building so people may help. however how many are interested in this scene overall is hard to say. i've sold quite a few that has people in it.

imagine in 40 years, or even less, when people look back at this and say, look at the cute outfits they are all wearing. just like if you were to see this and see victorians walking around.

Cheers Mike, good points !

First I must say that I like the shot.

I agree with, Mike.

If the people were missing from the scene it would not be nearly so interesting. IMO.

The folks help to bring life to the image.

When using photos in print ads, pics with people in them are 3 times more effective then those without. That would explain why stock sells better with people in them.

Ronald, you already know that . . . Photos With People Work ! But your question is focused on "Capitole de Toulouse". In this particular case, I have to say that this photo would not make a great postcard nor good wall canvas print, because this photo has too many identifiable "tourists" in the photo. I have viewed some of your work . . . so I believe that you already know that this photo would not be your best postcard example. Post Script; I sure do enjoy your visual art !

I think the people make this image and since no one is recognizable no problem.

The Time Of Day

You might get one early in the morning
Without too many people around the place

But then it would be in showdow
Being I guess, a west face

Possibly mid afternoon
in the winter

With heavy coats
And wrap around throats

But then

You'd be back in Ireland
All wpapped up

Seeking a low tide
With seemingly abandoned boats

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. I will leave the shot up for now. I have a few more night shots of the Capitole I will add soon
