Yep - there are many deserts besides our southwest ones - Mexico, South America, Africa, India, Asia - the Gobi - as well as Antarctica and the artic wastes. Deserts often aren't the sand dunes we think of as desert, like the Sahara, but can be dry grasslands or even have bushes and trees in the wadi's and gullies.
