How Often For Email Marketing?

I have created an email list from people who have signed up, taken an interest in, or have purchased my work.
Sometimes I run a promotion, have an event to share, or new work to show. I like to include this info into one email.
I am wondering how often would you send emails with this information to not get on the nerves of your recipients. Or vice versa, how often would you want to receive information like this from a business. Once a month? Once a quarter? Thanks for your input

I like to try to send one out every month or so just to remind people I'm out there selling my work. Sometimes I go for two or three months without sending one. If I've got something important to announce, I may send one out even if I had recently sent out my monthly one.

I usually try to have the email based around offering some promotion, announcing something interesting that I'm doing, or just marking a season or holiday.

I have one list that I send out weekly, the other out monthly.

Here is my thread about creating a powerful email list ... and more!

Thanks guys, I am currently using mailchimp and is successfully reaching people. I just didn't want send them too often or not often enough. I was thinking once a month but the wife said once a quarter! Thanks for your input!

I haven't gotten into email yet, but I think the overall issue is the same on all social media. You've got to be more interesting than just "hawking" for sales. What you have for sale is the most uninteresting thing about you to most people.

Once a month is often thought of as an "acceptable" frequency but you don't need to send them "by the calendar." They should only be sent when there is something salient/important/unique to share. If you have several new pieces uploaded every week then a monthly "digest" might be in order. Or, if you just landed an exclusive showing somewhere or received an accolade of which you are proud - that might be a good reason to send a "special" notice to your list.

Mary Ellen has it pretty well nailed down. It is best to be mostly informative and only a little bit sales-ish.

The most important part of your email is the Subject Line. It needs to be compelling to ensure the email is even opened and looked at.

Remember, Chad, email campaigns are permission based marketing, not social media marketing. People subscribe because they want to know what you have to tell them, thus your response rate will be much higher that stats on social media. My last email saw a 65% open rate, the average is below 24%. So, if you say the right things in one email the next one gets opened ... then you can send weekly if you want because your audience is feeding on it. Read the articles in the thread link I provided and I wont repeat it all here.

About email campaigns: See Frank Casella.... lol

I agree with Frank.

I send once a month as regular as I can, usually announcing new products. I never run "sales" to speak of so mine would be more hard sell. I will also send out an additional email that of what ever the latest press release I send out. The emails I send at the time of the email get opened at a higher rate.

There used to be several "free" press release services out there but they age getting harder to find. I usually pay for press releases. But like everything, else I am getting lazy and not staying on top of it like I used to.

My list is what I consider all opt in. They have either signed up or have received and email that asks them if they want to continue getting emails of new products and news regarding my company.

I used to get about 75% rejection when asked if they want to keep receiving emails. Now it is way below 50%. I don't know why it has improved. People are becoming more reliant on shipping on the net is one reason maybe.

I follow the guidelines from "Constant Contact". They will do a free trial for you and even if you have no intention of using them in the future, it may be worth your while just to do the free trial and ask them a bunch of questions. You can learn a lot that way.
