The Future Of Art

When we look back at historical artists, we define many of them as "cutting edge." Another popular conversation point is often: "They were the first artist to do ___________."
That being said, what/where do you think the future of art will lead?

Ally, from what trends I see here, much of the future for Art will be anything but what exists now, because......there is new emphasis on electronic artworks, video, virtual everything; and that is celebrated here at our very 'staid' public Art Galleries.........who know trends when they seem them.

What that will do to the other more traditional artists and their work, I don't know.......but the young today don't live by the old traditions, do they ! And, the learning curve into electronic Art at schools is proof of a move away from what we now consider traditional art.........

I do also think there will always be a market for traditional artists - very modern, exciting,'traditional' - but not........Twas ever thus .

Since the term "traditional" is so vague, there's no doubt there will always be a market for it...

There will also always be a market for thinking outside of the box.

Ally, sorry, I disagree. It is ignorant to suggest 'traditional' art is a vague term.....My reference of 'traditional' is an exact counter to your very own topic........'cutting edge'...........there is nothing vague about 'traditional', imo.

Tell me what you understand to be, um, your term:: cutting edge. I gave you cutting edge - pixillations, video, - what do you mean? Don't be vague............

They will co-exist together- traditional art and electronic art. The traditional art will lose some part of her market share, but it will not disappear. When 1895 first movie was shown to the public, there were predictions that theater will disappear, the first video tape will kill movie theater. They all still exist and will exist. The new trend is going back to your roots, more and more young people turn back to uniformed world of multinationals- slow eating tradition in Italy, folk song festivals in Latvia, French attempt to protect their identity, homemade food, handmade articles. There is place for everyone.

3D printing in Art... They can already produce "impossible" shapes from fractal type designs. There has got to be some ground breaking art just around the corner with these awesome machines kicking around..
