Does Anyone Use Tumblr For Promotion?

I just stumbled on some of my own images on Tumblr posted by the Department of the Interior (US Govt) which they have permission to do. What seemed rather impressive was the number of shares, likes and whatever else people do in the comments area.

http://americasgreatoutdoors.tumblr.com/post/48855783831/a-pair-of-kayaks-take-in-a-beautiful-sunrise-over#notes

I don't see any traffic from it because they only have to credit me with my name.

It seems pretty active. Does anyone here do anything there to promote themselves or it is just a big glob of Spam over there?

Is it worth looking into setting up a page or blog or photo feed over there to try to send people back here?

Adam,
I have an account but haven't done anything with it. Basically I'm lost on who would use any of these social media sites. The premise that you just wait for something of interest to cross your screen lifestyle baffles me. That said, they do seem to work.

Of all the social sites out there, About Me, I think is the best of them all, I have only been on since April but I have over 30 thousands views, It is Free and easy to use. Take a look at the thread on FAA and if you sign up, post your address on the thread so other members can add you to their collection.

I use "twitter" with zero results in terms of selling my work for the past few years. Facebook gave me a few sales over a year ago. Tumblr looks nice but that's about it.

I use tumbler intermittently and do get some stuff tumbled but whether they turn into sales, I don't know. I do know that twitter has turned into sales for me, as has FB.

I believe Heather has had success at Tumbler.

Started one a few weeks ago. I'm curious to see how it helps out my FAA account. Feel free to take a look.

Like Mary Ellen, I've registered a site there, but have done very little with it, so far. Here one 'art on tumblr' link that might be useful. (I've been reading everything I can find, of course!)

@Adam -- Your sunrise kayak shot is stunning! Wish I were there. :-)

@JD -- Looks like you're off to a great start on Tumblr. That opening video gives a real sense of excitement to your page!

By the way, here is a recent article about business marketing on Tumblr:

After reading this I decided to sign up and see what it brings. There seem to be no way of knowing how many visitors come to your site unless they leave a comment of follow.
I have a habit of starting theses various projects and then not finding the time to keep it up so we'll see goes.
At first sight I think I prefer blogger :)

I like your site Frank, very professional looking.

Tumblr is absolutely my favorite social network. There is a community of very talented photographers there from rank amateur to complete professionals.

I do get some traffic from tumblr but I can't say for sure if it's led to any sales.

The abundant artist blog about Tumblr is interesting. Says it skews young and poor. Under 30 and under $50K income. Realm of teens and college kids. Probably because its so cell phone oriented. Picture people flipping through on cell phones on the way to work.

If you have limited time, pinterest seems to be more worthwhile as its a wealthier and older demographic - people decorating their homes, planning weddings, daydreaming about their perfect kitchen etc.

I live on Tumblr - I have the most followers by far on there, been on the radar twice, lots of reblogs by the big photography tumblrs... its where the vast majority of the traffic to my site comes from.

Heather, you a a nice site there, I like the theme you've used. - I've just followed you.
One thing that escapes me in general, how do you leave a comment on a particular post, the only thing I can see is the like symbol.

Andrew Pacheco

Comments are limited to rather or not the original poster has comments allowed, and you can only comment when you see the post in your dashboard not if you go to the original poster's tumblr page.

That explains it then, I tend to go to the posters site and go through all the posts. Pity, I would quite often like to make a comment - not very social if you can't comment easily
