Images Incorrectly Classified

Relatively new member here.

I was just showing the site to a fellow photographer and while browsing through photos on the home page we noticed a large number of images that are marked as photographs that are quite obviously not.

Is there a way to report this and get them reclassified?

each person that uploads is responsible for putting it in the right spots. sometimes we mess it up. for the most part many don't care. buyers usually search by word rather than medium.

you would be reclassifying millions of them.

David,

I suggest to take a look at the current thread, "Straight Photography vs. Pictorial" ..It's an interesting read.

Roger,

The stuff I'm talking about is a little more straight forward than that. In one case someone has a huge gallery of scanned patent drawings with slightly colorized backgrounds. Others are obviously paintings and say as much in the descriptions.

I'm thinking that a lot of artists are photographing their paintings and illustrations and categorizing them as photographs, although I don't know if there's a category for photographic reproduction.

If there isn't, maybe there should be.

it's honestly not a huge issue. the spamming of words is more of an issue. because unless the buyer actually sorts it by type, it's all mixed.

When I first came here (2009) members could click on all the category icons..with any given image.posted...And if I do say so myself, with my persistence, Sean (Brian then) finally limited it to only 2.

So I guess, some feel they have 1 icon to spare, why not click on "Photography".

that bottom row of icons, you have to go out of your way to reselect. often i forget it's there. digital art, painting etc - all under photo because that's what it defaults to.

The first painting I came across in the Photography classification was neither keyworded or said to be a photograph. In fact, the artist puts its medium as Oil Painting. So the OP is correct, there are random other-media images contained within the wrong media grouping.
While many people would use the search feature, others might just want to look at one medium and up pops another. The other "problem" (it's not life or death) is that things that really do belong in a group are, conceivably, further back in the page sequence or might not be there at all. Who's going to click on "oil paintings" to try and find a photograph of a sunset? Conversely, if that painting is not in its correct group, it is not being seen by people only looking through that group.
