Webmaster Tools

Anyone with a site use this? Is it necessary to have your site show up in google. The reason I ask is I cannot seem to verify my site in webmaster tools.

Thanks

It might be that Google hasn't visited your site yet. Have you tried doing a Fetch as Google (under Crawl on the left hand menu)?

I cant do anything because I can't verify. How do I verify my site in webmaster tools. I tried the steps and none of them seem to work. I can't seem to add a meta tag to my site or upload an html file to the site. Any suggestions?

If you can't edit the html or upload files to your site, you might need to contact your hosting provider.

Hi,

You should just be able to include the meta tag they give you into the 'HEAD' section of your page, or I think the other option is just upload a file that they give you, to the main folder. Using an ftp program or whatever 'control' panel the company that you use for hosting you site gives you.

I presume you have your own web site? or are you talking about the 'artistwebsites' web site... you wont be able to do it for that site, as you dont actually 'own' it.

@Gord - You won't be able to verify your http://gord-follett.artistwebsites.com/ website, if that is the site you are talking about. However, Google WILL crawl and index it, even without Webmaster Tools. (Google for "artist Nikki Smith" and you will see my artist website, for example.)

If you are referring to a personal website you host elsewhere, contact the hosting company for help.
