voting for your own work? of course it's ok. it's your work. if you run for office - do you vote for the other guy? no.

it is wrong to get all your friends, neighbors etc to vote on you and game the system. so many do that, and this isn't fair and shouldn't be allowed. if you want to run a contest without us voting for our own work you can:

1. do the contest and don't tell us to vote - because i forget about them after i enter.
2. have a jury only
3. erase each person that has the town marker of where they live of who uploaded it - and that would be the hardest thing.

in the competition should others decide to add a point to my photo, not me ... is not it? It is strange when vote for 20 photos and each has a one point ... by author :-D

because the contests here are mostly for advertisement of that piece. it's not for winning. there are no prizes. and if you don't vote for yourself, you don't appear on the leader board at all. it's like tipping your own tip jar, you know no one tossed in a $20, yet it's there hoping someone will match it or something like it.

Street musicians always throw a dollar or two into their guitar case, just to get things going. No shame in voting for your own art!

@ludek.. those groups are about marketing, not contests. When a customer does a search here on FAA the results are "weighted" by many factors as to whose images appear first. Previous sales is a major factor, but votes, visits, and group features also affect your search rating.

Also in a contest with hundreds or thousands of entries they are presented in the latest submissions first and the early submissions last. And when people go to vote most will look at the current standings first, and if you haven't voted for yourself they will not see your image. And again that is all about marketing. Winning a contest gets you no benefit in the search results.

About groups... the benefit for a member to join a group is to get visits from their image submissions, and better to get featured on the group home page. Many members who join groups just submit images and never participate in any discussions. May who enter contests never even go back to vote.
