I have all these trips buzzing around in my head now. I like something about each of them...the pink sand and limestone rocks of Bermuda, the Mayan Ruins and Isle of Mujeres near Cancun, the history of St. Augustine, and turquoise water of the Gulf side of the state. I'm not a fan of hot Florida though or their windswept beaches and birds as big as mini jets swooping down. Perhaps it is because I live by the coastline, but eventually...a beach is a beach to me, and I ask myself why I bothered to spend money when I can roll down the street for free.
I loved the quaintness of New England towns....Mystic, CT, old Portland, ME, the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, Newport, RI, and the wonder of Mt. Washington in Bretton Woods, NH, both the hotel and mountains.
I've been to New Mexico and traveled to Colorado three times....Chimney Rock, Independence Pass, Wolf's Creek, rode from Pagosa Springs to Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, and took the cog railway up to Pike's Peak. While the mountains and rock formations are sights to behold, that thin air and dryness ruined it for me. Texas is too flat for my taste.
Philly is a trip into history. NYC was fun because it's both historic and round the clock life. Atlantic City...that was an experience into the outlandish. Chicago...been four times...eh...I travel there now only because my son is there. Indiana...again...never would have gone if my son wasn't there. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore...was beautiful until I was by the water's edge and saw smokestacks on either side of me.
Which leaves Washington, DC...my favorite. I think everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It's moving, inspiring and educational.
