BIOGRAPHY
Safoura Massoud lived between Persia and Switzerland until she settled down in California where she studied art at the Bruchion School of Art specializing in the old master's technique of painting. Born in Persia, educated in Switzerland and having lived in the U.S. for the past 2 decades, she has been greatly influenced by these three very different cultures. Her body of work deals with the concept of challenging what painting is and how the viewer perceive it.
Negotiating the unstable terrain between abstraction and representative, her aim is to creat something modern and new, yet incorporate the old master's technique and knowledge. Safoura's Art work revere and records an immediate and intimate encounter with the rhythms of the natural world, expressing her innermost feelings through the movement of line, color and form.
Safoura believes that among Organic elements, the human figure is a very complex form in constant change encompassing the widest range of knowledge and emotion , hence the best medium of expression and for this reason she has dedicated a major part of her time to figure drawings.
For the past 20 years Safoura has also been painting portrait and still life on commission.
