MEET THE ARTIST

Karen Henninger is a visionary visual artist, writer, women studies independent scholar and community education activist. But she's more than that, she's a creative artist of life itself. Karen has a Letters, Arts and Science degree from Penn State and a Related Arts degree with concentrations in English and Women Studies from Kutztown University, formally. But this doesn't really cover or explain her creative educational history.
As artists have it, she lives, defies, and merges common educational categories. She's a creative, independent thinker.

Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. In the local area, she has displayed her work in a variety of places including the Allentown Art Museum, The Reading Public Museum, Penn State Lehigh Valley, and Lehigh University. She has been a guest lecturer including at Lafayette College and RACC, done workshops for conferences including the Lovemore, Pa Coalition Against Domestic Violence, BWC Caucus and Lehigh University.
and for agencies such as Program for Women And Families. Her work was part of shows addressing Masculinities in Quinto, Spain and San
Francisco. She was picked one of 35 artists out of 100's nationally for 'Women's Rights; an Artist's Perspective, in 2013 for a show in St. Michaels, MD that included an online exhibition and catalog.

Karen explores multiple themes for her work based on the fact that she explores the idea that meanings for paintings are multiple and in the mind of individual viewers, not just in the artist, art historian or authority of art. She believes her work can serve mulitple purposes depending on context, location, motivation, intent and connection with her audience. Her work based on her Realted Arts degree explores the intersection between different modes of expression, different ways of being as well as ideas about creativity, our social environment and relationships with a critical gender analysis. Bottom line is she promotes being loved while being fully human for everybody!

Often, she works with a strong sense of following her intuitive heart and what she loves including her love of learning. It drives what she puts on the canvas. Her work includes oil paintings, some acrylics, pencil drawings, some charcoal, photography and digital imaging, usually with words, text, writings in, around and with the images.

Her collection of hundreds of artistic work also includes a variety of styles from abstract to surrealism with a variety of subject matter. Her current work in image creation and production involves merging non-digital and digital images into multi-media forms. Using her oil paintings, drawings, photography and writings, she's created both bookart and video-dvd art. Thus her artwork, paintings, and writings have been published numerous times. She created several videos, and bookart, from of her art exhibitions for an individual and film/online art show experience. Thus the
oil paintings displayed here may been seen differently, perhaps altered, through different modes and at different locations.

She has received awards for her writings, her paintings and her community education work. She has contributed her work to a variety of places online. She is currently working to establish her own sense of place in the virtual world. In the meantime, for more of her work, visit her as Creative Artist of Life on Facebook, at karendee57.wordpress.com, ourforemothers.wordpress.com and at pixels.com.
