Although I started working in a darkroom when I was 7 years old and have gone through a range of techniques and styles to match the developments in photography, I still regard myself as always learning.   My main focus these days is on pipe organ photography, but I enjoy landscapes, patterns and symmetry, experimenting with different styles - you name it, almost anything is fun to explore.   Pipe organs are especially fascinating since no two in the world are alike, and the craftsmanship and beauty of so many of them is truly thrilling and awe-inspiring.   Whether the pipes are far away up in a...more

Exciting sale

May 13th, 2018

Sometimes a sale is more than just a sale. I was delighted to be asked to give my permission to use my image of Gold and purple organ pipes by a publisher who wanted it for an anthology of organ music. It was a special thrill since one of my passions...

The trouble is, life is so full at the moment it is hard to sit down and think how to describe it! My brother visited this website a few days ago and noticed I hadn't blogged in a long, long time. He was a little cross at me I think, but was very nic...

NOW! A 45% discount! You can get a whopping 45% discount off any item from my Fine Art America store. Just use the discount code VJMSRP at checkout and the 45% discount will be applied to all items in your shopping cart. It begins now and goes until...

When you try to depict one of the world's largest pipe organs, the problem is: how? Scale and a sense of size is very difficult to get across to the viewer. But with this image I was able to show that, mainly through the diminutive figure of the orga...

Delighted to return home from another European concert tour to news of a sale. This is one of my favourite organs - the Cavaille-Coll organ in St Sulpice in Paris, France. It seems to be popular with other organ lovers too! I have garnered many mor...

It must be Spring! I have made a number of small sales recently such as this image of the organ pipes in Ruthin, Wales, UK, so I thought I would celebrate with a 50% discount sale off all of my photographs until the end of June. Explore my site and d...

Breda Cathedral and organ

May 13th, 2015

Thank you to the buyer of the card with this image. The Grote Kerk, in Breda, the Netherlands, really is an impressive space, from the moment you walk in. The crowning glory is the organ which is is a variety of bright, deep colours - greens, blues, ...

It was the amazing symmetry of this view inside the cathedral in Exeter, England, which first hooked my eye. The vaulting and the ceiling bosses all leading to the Loosemore organ case in the distance created both a grandeur and a point to the photo....

Spooky organ sale

April 21st, 2015

Post-processing with HDR results in a rather spooky view of this already surreal organ in St Bertrand de Comminges, in France. This particular organ was in fact featured in a ghost story by M R James, called "Canon Alberic's Scrap-Book", but in rea...

I have heard this organ in concert, in Dinkelsbuehl, Germany, and know how lovely it can sound. Just as lovely, only visually, is the brilliant red and silver case that sets off the organ pipes. It was built by the world-famous organ builders of Aust...

Another sale, proving that this little shot across to the Old Town Hall in Bamberg, Germany, is one of my most popular images. I do think the colours are fairly amazing - and I'm always grateful to the gardeners of the city who planted such beautif...

Having nearly reached my 300 images goal (only one more to go), I thought I'd celebrate with a sale. So here we go, with a huge 50% discount until December 5th, off all photos in my shop. Organs, animals, scenes, abstracts, symmetry, doors, locks, - ...

Like buses, sales are sporadic. For a while, zilch; then suddenly a batch get snaffled up for no clear reason. Not that I'm complaining, and am delighted at the variety of choice. One included an image that was part of my Organ Fantasy calendar, in w...

Sold my first photograph

September 28th, 2014

My first sale!! Just as I was wondering if everyone had left on the big white spaceship for Mother Moon and left me here all alone, the sale of Bamberg Bridge popped up. Thrilled doesn't cover it. Especially pleasing as I rated this shot highly too a...

Two shots - same organ

September 24th, 2013

Today I have loved creating two quite different shots, both taken of the same pipe organ. The wonderful Binns pipe organ in the Albert Hall, Nottingham, England, has a special elegance. The gold-painted pipes glow in certain lights and the small deta...

The joys of the internet combined with modern digital photography! This morning I have already savoured working on shots of the beautiful organ in Breda Grote Kerk (craftsmanship oozing from every angel!), one of my very favourites, that of the Cavai...
