Thank you for visiting my page. I'm a photographer living in Des Moines, Iowa. I've been taking photos as a hobby for over 25 years and have just begun to shift toward the professional arena. I first started taking pictures in my early teens, as a way to cope with shyness ( I was a stutterer). While I was seeing beauty all around me, I had difficulty expressing it to others verbally, so I used the camera to help express my thoughts and feelings. I like to photograph everyday subjects like backyard plants and flowers, jewelry, and rusty surfaces in a way that makes them appear abstract, painterly and mysterious-usually through a macro lens. I have traveled to Europe and the Middle East and taken some photographs I'm very proud of, but I do not believe it's necessary to look further than your own surroundings to find beauty worth capturing. Like great writers, great photographers use familiar subject matter to tell the most compelling stories.
I usually use natural light and rely very sparingly on retouching and cropping my images, preferring to bring my skills to the front-end of the process. I have used large format (Calumet), medium format (Hasselblad, Mamiya) film cameras, and I currently use a Nikon D800 camera.
Thanks again for visiting my page and please stay tuned for lots more to come. I look forward to hearing any feedback you might have or just to say hello. ~ Cheers ~
