I learned to draw from friends in my late teens, and took a few classes in college, at UMCP. I eventually put art aside, for 20 years, to pursue a career in math and science. But I maintained interest and for various reasons I recently picked it back up. For people like me this site is a great way to mingle with the art world. I have seen a lot of beautiful stuff here and it's inspiring.
I'm not trying to do anything deep. In each piece I simply want to struggle and pass the time of life. It works well. I approach each drawing like entering a dark room and feeling around blindly. Sometimes for a long time feeling my way around. But eventually if I'm lucky I find a light switch and the room is illuminated and it becomes clear what I should do. The drawing leads me as much as I lead it.
Esthetically, I am driven by obsessive compulsiveness. I don't really know the source, but it's a powerful force that can't be resisted. My art should be seen as playful. It's not intended to evoke the observer's darker feelings. Because that's not fun. Most importantly I'm just trying to have fun doing it. It's all about the time spent. Until we die.
