Her journey into painting began unexpectedly while she was on a quest to discover her voice using other types of media in the late '90s.
Dee began as a stained glass artist, and moved into art quilting. In 2005 she took a workshop in watercolor, and from there developed her skills in various workshops using other media such as oil, acrylic and pastel.
An award-winning artist, Dee has participated in numerous group exhibitions. She has had several solo shows in Fairbanks, Alaska and won a poster contest gaining a 2 week long solo show at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks campus in 2010.
Wildlife, in particular bird life, has always been her primary interest. Dee paints mostly from photos in her studio, and in the summer can be out somewhere in Alaska painting on location.
