Coming soon...David Vartabedijan was born on 23rd of May in 1968 in Belgrade, Serbia. His father Miodrag Vartabedijan has M.A. in graphic arts and painting. His mother Dusanka Vartabedijan is a linguist and teacher of English and Italian. His sister Anamarija Vartabedijan has an M.A. in arts-painting and mosaic and currently teaches the history of design.
He graduated from the School for Industrial Design - department graphic design in 1987 and the same year he took up graphic studies at the Faculty for Fine Arts in Belgrade to graduate from it in 1992… Member of ULUPUDS (association of Serbian designers and painters).
Somehow when he was a kid he started going to the concerts, sure, believe it or not, his parents took him to the shows. So his first concert far from home was in Zagreb in 1982 where Motorhead, Gillan and Uriah Heep played. Since 1986 he has been going to different concerts all over the Europe starting with Scorpions and MSG in Budapest and has been to more than 600 concerts so far not counting Serbian and ex-Yugoslav bands, otherwise the number would accumulate to over 1800.
The year 1985. was kind of a turning point in his career when he became actively engaged in graphic design, drawing comics which were published in magazines such as 'Non', 'Mladost', 'Nas Strip' and took part in the activity of 'Beogradski Krug 2' (comic group). In 1987 he founded the band 'Scarlet' which stopped performing in 1991 just before its EP was due to appear on 'Jugoton' label, but failed because of the bad situation in former Yugoslavia. Nevertheless he managed to get all those recordings and compile a sort of archive CD.
Together with a team of his friends he managed to create 'Metal Rocks' fanzine in 1988 but only 5 numbers were published when he finally hit on the idea that he could earn some money writing about music. So, before the end of 1988 he started writing for the popular biweekly magazine 'Pop Rock' where he wrote more than 100 reviews and interviews in the period of two years. In 1989 he became the technical editor assistant and one of the designers of the same magazine.
At the end of 1989 you could see him in a prestigious Belgrade club 'Akademija' as a D.J. For the past 20 years he has been working in most of the Belgrade famous rock 'n' roll clubs as well in the clubs in Germany and Slovenia. He is still in that business and currently he is a resident D.J. in 'Voodoo rock caffe'. How long it's going to last it's only him who knows it.
From 1990/1993 he worked as a designer for FLU Akademija posters.
From 1994/1997 he is employed for the magazine 'Rocks' as the editor in chief and a designer. Since 1994 he has been designed posters, CD and MC covers (more than 40) for all Serbian record companies.
Since 1990 he has been exhibiting his graphics at group exhibitions and he had his first one man show in 1992.
In 1992 he became the author, D.J. and a presenter at 'Radio Politika' broadcasts dedicated to rock culture. He also worked at 'Radio Pingvin' and 'Radio Index'. Since then if he remembers well he has produced over 1.500 radio broadcasts. 'Hard Rockin' Roll' and 'Marinko I crna ljubicica' (the night programe) are the most popular of them all.
2001 was the year when he was employed as the music editor at 'Radio Politika' but in 2003 he quits that position though he occasionally appears in music broadcasts there.
All these years he has been writing texts for 'Vreme Zabave', 'XZ', Ukus nestasnih', 'Hard Metal', 'Explosive', 'Huper', 'Cao', 'Bum', 'Politika', 'Trece Oko', and today he is engaged in writing for time to time for Serbian section of 'Metal Hammer'. Altogether there are about more than 1000 texts and various live and CD reviews.
From 1994 to 1998 he worked as a manager for one of the most popular Serbian band 'Goblini' and in 1999 he started working with 'Havana Whisper' and 'S.M.F.' 2002 he is together with Cactus Jack band. Today he feels a little tired doing it so he took up part only in organization of foreign concerts, but he took a time to promote sleazeglamrock band Filthy Cathouse...
He is almost to finish his first book under the working title 'Sex, cheating and rock'n'roll' and he engaged in preparing graphics for (4) coming exhibitions which all seems rather strange as he is believed to be of a lazy type.
He has a completely well developed taste for music and arts which he (doesn't want anybody to argue about. These are Motley Crue, Marilyn Manson, Aerosmith, Ramones, Motorhead, ZZ Top, Iggy Pop, AC/DC, Hanoi Rocks, Backyard Babies, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Joan Jett, Led Zeppelin, Van halen, Sisters of mercy, Salvadore Dali, Andy Warhol, Leonardo da Vinci, Michalangelo, J.R. R. Tolkien, Terry Prachet, Clint Eastwood, G.G. Markes, and his favorite females Liv Tyler and Jessica Alba...

David Vartabedijan joined Fine Art America on October 3rd, 2010.
