I am an American artist who specializes in transportation subjects. I am retired after a 34 year career in the freight railroad industry, so I am familiar with my favorite subject matter. My objective is to capture the essence of a scene or a machine, but without distracting detail. In many of the paintings, I have worked to create a sense of motion.
The paintings are created using traditional drawing and painting techniques, and a variety of high quality oil paints, brushes and other tools, including the painting knife.
My process is as follows: I begin by making several pencil sketches from different angles and distances. Once I am confident I have a solid plan, I make a more detailed sketch with appropriate shading. Then, working on a colored canvas, I begin painting, usually completing a monochrome or low saturation under-painting first, followed by layers of color, details, and lettering if needed. Because of the multiple layers involved, the elapsed time for a painting can be many months.
I am a founding member of the American Society of Railway Artists, an associate member of the Oil Painters of America, and an associate member of the Allied Artists of America. I am listed in AskArt.com's Blue Book of American artists. You will find my advertisements in Classic Trains Magazine.
My painting 'Dawn Patrol' was published as the front cover of the 2nd quarter 2016 edition of the Keystone, the quarterly publication of the Pennsylvania Railroad Techinical and Historical Society. My painting of the Pacific Electric 'blimps' was published as a full page in article about railroad art in 2016 in Railfan & Railroad Magazine. In addition, one of my paintings was published in the November 2011 issue of American Art Collector Magazine, as part of an article entitled 'Moving Masterpieces'. An article about my art also appeared in the January 2012 issue of American Art Collector, entitled 'Industrial Age'. Please see my advertisement in the current issue of Classic Trains Magazine. My painting Superpower at Scranton was used as the back cover of The Diamond, the quarterly publication of the Erie Lackawanna Historical Society. My paintings have been licensed for use on bank checks and picture puzzles.

My painting Running Extra has been selected for inclusion on the 2016 Annual American Society of Railway Artists Exhibit at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas.
Three of my paintings were included in an exhibition of railroad art at the Bryan Memorial Gallery in Jeffersonville, Vermont during the first quarter of 2012.
Two of my paintings were selected for inclusion for an art exhibition at the Cheyenne Depot Museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming during the June and July of 2012.
My painting Allied Orient Lines was included in an art exibition at Penn State's Hub Gallery durning the summer of 2012.
My painting Thunder in Cathedral Canyon was selected for the 2011 Western Spirit Art Show at the sponsored by the Cheyenne Frontier Days Museum.
My painting This Way West was included in the miniatures show held concurrently.
My painting Allied-Orient Lines was selected for inclusion in the Allied Artist's of America 2009 annual exhibition at the National Art Club in New York City
Two of my paintings were selected for inclusion in the International Waters Exhibit held at the Ventura County Maritime Museum in Oxnard, California August 17-September 5, 2008.
My paintings were included in the Railway Reflections International Art Expo held at the Nevada State Library Gallery in Carson City, July 17-August 17, 2008.
My painting AHEAD OF THE WEATHER was selected for the Silver Anniversary Juried Show of the American Plains Artists, held at the Ellen Noel Art Museum in Odessa, TX June 6-July 12th 2009.

My painting DAYBREAK PALMS was selected for inclusion in the exhibition book for the the Richeson75 2009 International Small Works competion.
My painting NYC Tug won an award in the Steamship Historical Society's Art/Photo competition and appeared in
Powerships Magazine, the quarterly journal of the society.
Several of the Artist's paintings were included in the book Railway Art, published by Art Box of Tokyo, Japan
