Paul was born and has spent most of his adult life in and around Ballycastle Co. Antrim. He has been heavily influenced by the both the local scenery around his home town and also further afield in the raised bog lands and mountains in Co. Donegal. Paul is heavily influenced by the traditional ways that people interacted with the landscape and its resources, and the sea and this reflected in many of the pieces he has produced. Paul first became interested in art when a member of his family opened a gallery selling works by local Irish artists. Paul started to 'dabble' with some old oils and brushes he found in the roof space one day. The dabbling grew to an addiction. He has never had any formal training but apparently there is a tradition of painting in his family going back several generations. Paul is still investigating this part of his family tree through research and continues to add to the tradition through his own works.
