This one is my favorite because it is my very first watercolor painting of a horse. Painting this has made me realize that I had this style all along showing up in other paintings. It was also a healing moment for me. I realized after painting this that I hadn't done much horse art since I was a kid and the reason was because of having to suddenly no longer own horses (due to my parents loosing the farm we lived on). Having to sell my beloved horse and leave the farm was emotionally traumatic for me and I avoided horse related art for years afterwards. The day I painted this was a sudden decision, "I think I will paint a horse. Why not?" It was one of the most enjoyable art experiences I've had to date.




I have many favorites in this group, but this one is my current most favorite. I love the mood and the colors and understand how much work this was to create. The detail is phenomenal. It also has great composition. Besides that, it is remarkably sharp in the high res box.

I did this while I was recuperating from hip surgery ~ It was true therapy ~ Love the beauty of horses and the deep love of their owners!

I really like this submission from Nan Wright. The technique is wonderful as are the muted colors and authentic realism. Nice piece indeed.

This is my favorite horse painting called "Free". I like the colors and the free flying mane on this horse.




I like this pastel by Heather Gessell. Very realistic and excellent use of pastels (which aren't that easy to use). She did an excellent job on this. Lots of detail.

This is one of my favourite shots, the posture, the strong sense of calm, the lighting, the framing and the crispness of the shot...it all came together here





Randy has hit a home run with this wonderful story of life on the range, it has a lay back feel and delivers a strong elegance with its great toning, subject balance and wonderful execution .... VERY WELL DONE !!!

I just love the brilliantly colored batiks of Harriet Peck Taylor. To me, she achieves the perfect blend of whimsy and realism and this is just one of many of her gorgeous images.

Pastel on paper

I am usually pretty happy with the art I produce, but because I am a starving artist, most of the time I am working on orders instead of getting creative with my own ideas. This little painting was one of those rare moments that I was able to squeeze in and just have fun. It seems to be more expressive of me than others...


Silvana Gabudean has some quality artwork. I am loving all her work that I have seen so far. Mostly I am drawn by her talent and effort for accurately portraying equine anatomy while still being true to her personal expression.

This is my favorite because it is my first watercolor painting of a horse, and it depicts a friend that I knew well for a time....a few years back.

Marcia Baldwin's Mustang Appaloosa. This painting is mysterious and bold in it's color and composition. Her interpretation of the "wild" nature of this creature is very primal and earthy. I just love this painting!

This is one of my favorites because of all the colors I was able to put in as well as dramatic lighting.
