While shooting a sunset shot of Devils Tower in Devils Tower National Monument in northeast Wyoming, I spotted a small group of Whitetail deer off to my left as they were making their way up a hill heading back into a wooded area.

The light was fading fast, the deer were approximately 300-feet from me, and those two factors alone were enough to cause me to pass on the shot, but I decided to reposition my tripod and see what I could come up with. It is true, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. This young doe actually did me a huge favor when she stopped and was addressing what I think was an itch, and I got the shot.

I made this photograph in November 2017 shooting northwest of the monument near sundown.

This photograph has had an artistic filter applied to give it qualities unique to the art of painting.

Interested in photography since my high school years in the late 60�s, I finally purchased a Nikon SLR in the late 70�s and wasn�t long until I started selling my work. In 1970 I began my electrical career and continued to mix photography into my daily travels. With my successful electrical career coming to a close with retirement in mind, I won�t be one of those persons that retire and wonder what they will do with the rest of their lives.
