Christmas window candles are a traditional favorite in Christmas decorating.
Placing window candles started with the ancient Romans. During the period of winter solstice, they used to hold winter celebrations to praise the return of the sun. However, putting a candle in the window as a Christmas representation appears to be an Irish custom. Some say the candle in the window was meant as a message to the Biblical Mary and Joseph: there is room here for you and your coming child.
