Looks fantastic hung on my blue accent wall, and is much admired by my friends. I wish the size I purchased was still available because one of my friends really wants to purchase this picture with the same cooper frame choice.

Artist's Description
This is a furnace, known as a lime kiln. It was used to convert limestone into "quick lime". The lime produced here was used as soil fertilizer, was made into white-wash and was a key element in the making of plaster. The powered lime was also used as a very common deodorant for the "little house out back". Quarried limestone was also used, along with coal or charcoal, combined with iron ore to produce pig iron.
This beautiful old local landmark was thankfully saved when Route 180 was built in central Pennsylvania during the mid 1980's. The highway was constructed with the north and southbound traffic lanes spaced far enough apart to allow the furnace to remain standing in the widened median area, right between the opposing traffic lanes.
I understand that there had been an effort to have this site listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, but the application was never approved. (...what a disappointment!)

Capturing the beauty and complexity of nature is my main interest, from macro close-ups to wide vistas views ...and everything in between. Natural waterfalls are the most frequent photographic subjects found at the business end of my lens. Historic Covered Bridges and farmland scenes are also very close to my heart, but any visually interesting...
