This dormer window in my studio catches the morning sun for about two hours. Every once in a while I set up a still life there and try to "catch the light" :) It takes me two or three days to finish one this way- so I usually work on something else after the light changes too much. It was snowing outside when I set this up making a beautiful blue shadow on the building next door....

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
